Just had to post about my weekend at Lightning Ridge, we went out for 2 nights with friends, we only live 3 hours away. It is the most amazing place with so much to do or kick back at caravan park and relax, hot pools are clean, streets busy, coffee shop good, trips & tours are all worth seeing, if you haven't been make sure it's on your list of things to do. I can highly recommend The Opal Caravan Par, excellent facilities & spotles, great service.

KJ, I think your keyboard is stuffed. It seems to be missing some letters.
You are right though, the Opal Park is a beauty, hot pools are awesome and the tours are great, especially the car door tours. Great stuff.

Had 5 days there in March, stayed at the Opal C/V Park. Friendly town lots to see. Just loved the Black Opal at various places.
Definitely going back.

Many go to Lightning Ridge but few of those go to the Garwin Opal Fields. That is worth at least one day out there. Meals and drinks at the Glengarry Hilton are cheaper than here at home and the meal qualities are excellent. Also a day trip to Hebel is worthwhile. When visiting Lightning Ridge for heavens sake stay long enough to visit those.
Good morning, seems my post sparked lots of interest, the 3 pubs in the scrub are a must do as this is where the real Opal miners are, the Sheepyard Inn has some interesting characters while we were there we shouted one fellow a beer then he was keen to show us his small set up which was nice of him ? The only complaint I have is the barmaid at the Glengarry Hilton was as sour as a lemon, last time we visited 18 months ago the waiter was the same, but we still had a great day. The War memorial out there is also amazing if you are fortunate enough to be able to look inside, think enquire at Sheepyard Inn about that. Lightning Ridge leaves Moree for dead, I can't wait to head back out & explore. Safe travels today everyone.

It's a great place to visit. We've stayed at the Crocodile CP, very friendly. Also stayed at the Opal CP, very flash showers and that park is just opposite the thermal pool.
A visit to Hebel, just over the Qld border is recommended. A great old pub and there is an interesting walk with plaques about the pioneers of the area.
I believe there is a good free camp there too. It is only about 70 km from Lightning Ridge. There is another free camp across the road from the Lightning Ridge turnoff.

Haven't been there in a long time ,over 20years I think ,turned the showers on and swarms of mossies came up through the pallets
,sounds like some slight improvements have been done I may have to put it back on the to do list.

Have friends with a mine at Grawin. These are the results, found by and given to Raine, on our first visit
