I have just come across a 4 day "free campsite" right in the heart of the township of Cooroy. Cooroy is in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast.Queensland.
Cost is $10 per night per van.
Address is 17 Mary River Road Cooroy.
Must be fully self contained, and not allowed to dispense of grey water at this site.
Has anyone stayed there? And what is it like to use as a base to explore the surrounding areas.?

Have not stayed there, but Cooroy is a great place to explore from. Sunshine Coast, Hinterland, Glass House Mountains etc, and up to Gympie. Cooroy is a pretty little town with much to offer grey nomads.
Refrain from calling it a "free" camp, use the terminology "freedom camp". Great that these places are recognising our needs.

Thanks for the info JayDee. I looked ut up and shows a driveway alongside a horse riding school field. Wonder if that's it?
At $10 per night I wouldn't call it free as Dunmowin suggested, more like a "low cost" camp to me.
Doesn't matter what we call it as it sounds a good spot to prop for a night or two.
Well done.
Keep Safe on the roads.

More like a low cost camp to me too. I guess I have an objection. $10 for just a park space? Seems to be the go now though. I could also say that they are taking advantage. I know all the ney sayers will pontificate on how they are willing to pay and everyone else are cheapskates.

Ok, Freedom / low cost/ free/ camping.
To have a base at Cooroy to explore the region of the sunshine coast at $10 per night is good enough for me.
It is as good as free camping.
Perhaps you are right re the word "Free".
I believe that there are RVers out their that still complain that they are still not happy even when using absolutely free camping. Only need to read some or many of the comments on rfers forums.
I must agree that it would be great for other provincial towns to follow the lead of the Noosa council.
By the way we intend to book into Cooroy mid June so I will give you all my view of the park.
I have spent a few days at this one. It's a great spot.
There are a couple more down the road at Eumundi. Eumundi Showgrounds - and - The Eumundi RV Stop Over - The latter one is in the car park for the Eumundi markets (2 day max stay.)

Jules we stayed there in November Power $25 plus pay for a shower each and no water to your site and a lot of gravel , The place is hard to find and was not a place I would go back to another $10 a night and you could be some where nice , We maybe fussy we didn't stay at Greens Lake when we called there we like our comforts .

Thanks for that extra info JayDee, I didn't know you had to book.
$10 per night for that area is more than fine with this little black duck. Well big duck anyway.
I have taken note of all that as will be handy.
Well done.
