Hi all , we took a trip up to Bermagui a few months back from Vic , as most wud know around there its a bit hilly and winding . though I drove reasonably steady I had to employ the brakes a bit.
We had the brakes serviced around 18 mths back and only drove it from SA to vic and then not being used till the trip to Sth NSW
My issue is the brakes worked fine while under load but when I was driving slow and had to pull up the brakes seemed to grab hard
I backed off the electric controller but it made little difference , wud an adjustment on the actual wheel do the trick or wud it be a brake controller issue.
Any help appreciated .

What is the make and model of your controller? If it's a timer/synchroniser type they are prone to that.

Hi , its a redarc not sure of the model , my wifes out in the vehicle so cant check at moment

We have a redarc as well, with the same issue. We pulled up at a petrol station at Kataning in WA and the brakes grabbed on the sandy surface. Seems to me the setting in slow travel will grab no matter. I have since learnt to leave the setting alone, its not easy finding the sweet spot.
I think thats the only issue with these type of brakes. Just a bugger when a friendly cop tells you the caravan brakes are grabbing..

Hi Sorry I was totally wrong ours is a PRIMUS TEKONSHA least thats the only thing that is visible to me .
I think we had a red arc on a work van that I had , hence the confusion from lack of looking
I have just googled it and seen how to tune it via a manufacturers video
I'll give it a go and let you know how I go

My experience with grabbing brakes at low speed (actually locking solid) was due to the magnets being worn badly....they wear unevenly which eventually causes the magnet to have a wedge shape which then 'wedges' itself on. I use a Tekonsha Prodigy controller.
It could be quite expensive blaming the controller without pulling a brake drum off first to inspect at the pointy end.

With electric brakes there is no adjustment except on the brake controller in the car. If adjusting the controller makes no difference...
As above - first take the brake drum off the van and check the magnet then after replacing the drum, try pulling out the break away key (to make sure that is working on each wheel) then the controller needs to be checked.

The electric brakes are adjustable on our 2011 Jayco tandem 24" Sterling. I adjusted them a few weeks ago.

To add to Jim and Paul's replies, there are no electrical adjustments on van brakes. They did mechanical adjustments to the brakes.

Thanks for correcting. I went out and got the Break adjustment tool from Super Cheap Auto $14 from memory. Made by Stanley I remember that bit.
