Hi all, I'm thinking of upgrading my motorhome to 5.2 tonne. I've checked with the dealer to confirm that it can be done and tried to work out the cost on the RMS website, but found it very confusing. Can with a NSW registered motorhome of that GVM tell me how much they are paying, please?

Hi JannPaul
Yes their website is massive and a confusing nightmare. Whoever designed it should be hung drawn and quartered.
Registration charge as I understand is based on the tare mass, so if you ring them on 13 77 88 and quote the tare mass they'll let you know what the cost will be. Don't forget on top of that will be the pink slip and green slip costs.

I presume you know that a car licence is not legal at that weight.

Just over $1000 to register our 6 ton motorhome . About $100 more than a car .. Depending on CTP insurance . MR licence required in my case .

Thanks everyone. Not sure which way to go with this. Increasing the GVM would be great in terms of weight limits, but resale and annual costs may be an issue.

Bit the bullet and did the upgrade today. Actual registration is cheaper, but don't know about the CTP yet. Just wanted to make sure we were legal.
