We never park up that long but, maybe just fill it with water, cant hurt & keep everything damp.
For the short time ours id not used & put water in the bowl to keep the seal moist, after olive oiling it.

You only need to "winterise" your van if you live in an area with very heavy frosts. In all other areas just lay your van up the same whether it is winter or summer.

We should have thought the words out a bit better, what I should have said was do you recommend to fill the cassette with water and citric acid and leave for the six months or leave it empty
Thanks for any replies

I wouldn't be putting anything acidic into it, as I said above, fill it with water.

if you really want the good oil, go onto the manufacturers (if Thetford, its www.thetford.com) website. They all have "contact us" facilities and you can ask them the question.
As a matter of course, I spray the top sliding trap with olive oil every 4 months or so to make it 1)easier to move and 2) hopefully get it in good shape and not drying out.
Once a year I take the cassette top off and wash it out properly and then leave it to soak for a day with disinfectant in it. Then I rinse it out a few times and put it back empty into the van bay

When my MH is not in use I empty the cassette, fill it with disinfectant and water leave it for a day then empty and dry it out. I lubricate the top seal with silicon spray and leave the unit in the garage until next trip. Seems to work fine.

I alway spray the bowl with cooking oil as advised from another member . Pays to really clean seals from time to time and spray the meckignesim with silicon spray it keeps everything soft and lubed up . Another thing I have Sean people throw away money on is new pumps. I have found in mine and a few others I have worked on . People let the water Esther clean or with blue loo stuff in the flush tank it can seize the pump. Easy fix pull it out and use a nail or small screw driver and spin the impeller round when it's free give it a bus on power . You would be suprised how easy to fix. On that note did you all know there's a fuse in the bin were the tank goes .looking in its in the top right side about halfway in . To empty the flush tank pull the clear hose out of its holder and lay it out from the van that way you can clean out the water supply
