Personally I would not have my name on the back of The RV ,a friend of mine was woken up early one morning by someone calling his name out it was just a nuisance annoying them ..his name is no longer on the back...

I agree - same with the "do not overtake signs when turning" on the back of vans - ask everyday car drivers what they mean and they say they wouldn't have a clue!
Good Luck

I've had many trucks contact me by referring to the big multi colour fish on the back of my rig...the point is its a marker for identification..just as a name or whatever is.... What are they supposed to say without any form of identification.....white caravan ahead...Durrrrr..........
It may be a wank Brickies as you call it.......but I sure as hell know when a Truck is approaching me at a rapid rate on the Nullabor or whatever, from either direction....I really don't need to know the truck drivers handle and blood type....but numerous times they need to identify us quickly....do they simply refer possibly to the odd shape of your head...?.. My fish also gets me a few free fish at seaside stops...they see I obviously like fishing...never had a downside yet to having my details on the reverse of van...
Any sign writer will print off vinyl stickers for you 'Rainy'...go for it....the anonymous can remain anonymous...probably more their lifetime choice anyway..Hoo Roo

hako if you don't know why the Do Not Overtake Turning Vehicle sticker is on the back of a lot of vans, perhaps you need to catch up on the road rules. This sign makes it LEGAL to use more than one lane when turning left. If anyone tries to come up on your left hand side and runs into you they are in the wrong. There are certain rules to follow before putting one on, eg. height of sticker, length of combination etc.

I also display Names, UHF, Mobile number on Van, and have never had any adverse comments but, I have had a lot of trucks advise me that they are moving up etc.
As for the "Do not overtake turning vehicles" signage and markers fitted to combinations over 7 meters long, it does allow combination (caravan and tow vehicle) to legally turn from 2nd lane to avoid cutting corner with van wheels. Whether everyday car drivers "have a clue" or not they will be booked if they are detected moving up inside a van with signs and markers signalling a turn or if they cause an accident for doing so. This is mandated in all States and is clearly defined in all traffic handbooks.

We just have "CH40" beside our van brand name on the rear of the 'van. We do scan other channels, but most truckies are on 40.
It is useful because as others have already pointed out, it allows the truckies to call you and tell you they intend to overtake or sometimes that they will follow you for "X" km until they have enough flat and straight road to wind up the revs to pass you.
So when a truckie calls me up its "Supreme caravan in front..."
I use the self adhesive silver and black letters and numbers for the likes of letter boxes - get them at Bunnings and most hardware shops. They come in various sizes. The large ones I used cost $2 each.

Thank you for your positive comments. I have towed camper trailer, poptop and campervan but have not towed our new off-road poptop discovery as yet. I believe that if I could communicate with trucks and let them know, please pass if needed and not have to feel that I have to go faster to get off my bum. The off-road seems so big, 17'. As hubby has sleep apnea, I will do a fair part of the towing. I have a mr licence but need to boost up my confidence towing.

Hi Rainy1850,
You drive in a manner that you and you alone, feel comfortable with. The big boys will go around you when safe. If they get up your bottom, they are the ones who lose their mowmentum. Just let them go. The more you tow, the more you will enjoy. The extra room and being able to cook out of the rain and bugs is worth it.
Now Lambie will make me take a tub more offen.
I too have moved up to a 2.4mtr square box shape for the first time. I hate the strap on mirrors. So have brought a pair of extendable towing mirrors. These I will fit shortly before setting off on our upcoming adventure.
