Yes, I understand that people need other people to talk with etc. and it seems today that people are so cautious when they are out there, but some people take it to the extreme.
Especially couples. I am always friendly but sometimes people must think you are going to borrow a cup of sugar off them or what is your agenda etc.
NOW, because there seems to be a need for us solo's I am going to arrange something.
First off I live in Port Elliot South of Adelaide and am intending to go up through Broken Hill, up through Bourke and eventually up to Kuranda 25 ks out of Cairns and camp in their grounds there (I only do free camping).
I expect within the next two weeks and we do not need to travel together but I can put together where I will be most nights and think if you want to join in good if not keep on travelling.
No commitments.
You can either contact me on my message board or if anyone has other ideas let me know.
PS I suggested to webmaster something similiar a few months back but no reply.
Helen.

I hope some other "Solos" meet up with you along the way and you have a great time together. Safe travels and say good bye to being alone.

Helen,
Maybe some couples like to keep to themselves or just talk to other couples, but I love a chat with anyone. If I only have OH to talk to it would be so boring, after 5 weeks I think we'd get a divorce. Unfortunately we are not travelling at the moment due to family issues but hope to head to SA or ANYWHERE soon.

I wasn't saying I was lonely but was mostly replying to some other posts that have been on here recently ie the person who has lost his partner and was very anxious about travelling and the person who was in the Flinders Ranges and just wanted to share his day with other's.
I don't drink but it's great to camp around a fire about 6 at night and have a few drinks talk about the stars, life in general and just to share experiences.
Come on solo's, this site has been too quiet for too long.

Wow that sounds like a great trip !!!!! I have a distant cousin in Broken Hill and have never been there, so am planning on doing that trip as probably a starter trip, but the rest of your plan sounds great too.....wish it was October 2017...!!!! then I could be on my way, unless I strike it rich before then and can buy myself something decent to travel in......You will have to keep in touch to let me know how it's going.....cheers Vicki

Yep Helen, nothing like a campfire at night.. When I lived in Alice we used to have a camp fire at friends who lived out at Ross River, and couple of the lovely aboriginal ladies had guitars and would shyly sing country and western....so gorgeous...and the stars at night out there...wow, just amazing...I miss that lifestyle so much.
Sounds like heaven Helen...and always nice to chat to people, even if it is just sharing travel stories or tips or whatever....the meaning of life....ha ha.....

Yes it's a great idea.....everyone has different needs, and solo information, especially when you are new or just starting up travelling alone. It's always great to get ideas from people all over, but sometimes I guess we need to ask different people for different ideas or advice. It's great to share with others.

Some started out in the "solo's" and have lots of friends there - they may have since become a couple, but still want contact with their friends on the forum. That's the way I see it anyway. No hassle - I like to read all sub forums - Techs, Cooking etc..

Hi Adreamer, I understand what you are saying. When I stay at most places for 1 night I don't even try to join in the with the local crowd. but if I stay for a few weeks I find that I mix in very well. it takes time for people to get to see what you are about. When they do, I usual find that we have a very good relationship and also many funny moments'. At my last stop one of the ladies made me a lovely beaning as she said she has never laugh so much for a long time. I can also say people enjoy seeing people doing what they want to do and are sometime very jealous of what we can achieve. so I take the good with the bad.
I am currently at Brim at the moment and will be heading in the same direction as you. I will be taking a
detour heading across to Ballina for a friends 60 birthday. then up to cairns. let me know where you are going to be. also I only do free camps or showgrounds or excellent free camps. I will attach some photos of an amazing artwork in brim and the rv camp would be in my top 4. 10 bucks per night.

Hi John, Less is best! My first trip was hopeless. I packed so much that it took me all day to find things (some I never found).
Just take things easy, we have lots of time (hopefully) lol. I always think positive and think what is the worse case scenario.
I am heading up through Broken Hill and slowly onto Cairns, sometimes my trips don't always work out the way I planned either and I stay a few extra days somewhere or take detours and find myself somewhere else.Good luck John and I'm sure you will meet some really nice people, it's a whole new life coming up.

Won't be going to Burra until about end of September.
Burra is in a Valley and can be very cold in winter. It's like a little bit of Paradise, especially if you like bush walking and quietness!!
Happy travels Ian.

Being "solo" is a state of mind. I live with a friend nowadays (same house different beds)
Have been a single handed sailor all my life.
THAT.. is solo. at sea for weeks just you and the wind. Beautiful then some. Not too many can handle it though.
AND a dog or cat.
If you have one of either. you will never be lonely, cats like sedentary life , with you physically when THEY want to be. Dogs can be a nuisance.
Mine used to stand in hatchway and chuck down the hatch when it got too lumpy. Just letting me know. cat just clung onto side cushions in cabin and gave me real dirty looks. I NEVER went to weather..
if you lonely you're bored. Get your mind wrapped around doing something. even if only a good book.
Your mind busy. You don't have time to be lonely or anything else..
Try it. I've been alone since I was 7 worked full time since 13 now near 75. Still don't have time to be "lonely"
When you truly on top of it.
The best feeeling is when you step through the front door.
and close it behind you.

Hey.
I've been called worse than that mate.
have bad habit of opening mouth before brain wakes up.
I've travelled with both over the yrs.
Dogs a more outgoing pet but more restrictive unless you have large vehicle to hide it in.
My cats. Well.
sleep under quilt when cold (brought up in tropics so always cold)
Good alarm clock and guard. Nobody gets near van..
without the barking or (yuk) Yapping..
Sits on/in face and looks at door/window.depending what you doing.
I just prefer Cornish Rex to anything else nowadays,
Had 'em for over 20 yrs and they travel everywhere with impunity.
Plus drop kicks ain't my thing. I prefer a dog if you having one.
Sorry to the owners of such. Just personal opinions.
OH. My last doggie who sailed round Aust and over to Tassie several times, was a Bull Terrier/bull Mastiff.
43kg of pure muscle and loving (licking ) tongue.
Had a bad habit of running over the bow though when Dolphins in bow wave.
I kept a strap on lifejacket on him with a BIG Stainless lifting ring set into top of.
Boat hook was super strong and ringed at end to clip onto Kite Halyard and mast winch.
Bloody heavy in a heaving sea and middle of night.
Can also take cats all round Aust in Motel/hotels.
Carry in room in a shopping bag and no noise.
