my caravan has been fitted from the factory with a 12v to 12v system that charges the battery from the alternator when travelling .
When I hook the car up to the van with every thing connected should I expect to see the voltage rise on the volt meter ,inside the van when I give the alternator a few revs...
Or iff not how would you know the things working.
Your opinions would be much apprreciated.

What is the make and model of that battery booster? There are some models that require a signal line from the tug to trigger them into life.
The way to check if any battery charger is working is to hook a volt meter across the battery or the charger output.

Yeah the the cars connected to the van with the engine running ,so everything is connected right Fully as good as its going to be, the volt meter in the van must be connected across the terminals as it shows the voltage going into the battery and rise whenever the battery is put on the 240 charger Or solar panel.
The vans not here at the moment but I will put my volt meter on it soon but it does not make sense to me how it will differ from the caravan volt meter in its readings?
Any how whether it's my van or any one else's what voltage if any should be read across those battery terminals that's simply all I wanted to know and thanks for your reply..

I use a ctec charger to look after the van battery. When the Crusier is running the battery volts on the aux battery the supply to the caravan battery will be about 14.1 on start up and will fall to the float voltage of around 13.6.

yeah Briche with mine I think but I will have to double check it, sitting in van and the volt meter on the battery terminals with the car alternator spinning power into the system, the voltage hardly moved , some one told me they only maintain voltage so you won't see much of a voltage rise across your ampmeter that does not make sense to me.
Surely you must see a voltage increase on the meter if the things charging...

I won't be able to double check the voltage for another week until I pick up the Van , but I think the voltage was about 13 volts and with the the. Alternator spinning charge into the system the volt meter barely moved, what I really want to know is has any one on the forum done this simple test and what was the result...

Just a follow comment. Once the charging system is up and running you will find that the terminal voltage on your van batterywill vary only a small amount. Let's say that you have been running things in your van that has drawn some power from it and you then start your car the battery terminal voltage will reflect the actual condition of charge remaining in it. that terminal voltage maybe something like, say 12.9 volts but as the the alternator continues to charge the battery it will slowly rise to it's max charge value of around 13.6.
if the low battery terminal value is say 13.2 volts then the terminal voltage will rise to it's floating charge value of 13.6 over a shorter time frame. So at the end of the day once your terminal voltage reaches 13.6 volts or thereabouts that where it will stay as it continues to charge the battery to it's full capacity.
hope that makes some sort of sense

My questions are:-
Can you describe what you mean by a 12V to 12V system?
Is it just a cable running from the battery in the van to an Anderson Plug on the drawbar or what?
Had a DC-DC charger unit been fitted to the van battery?
Without the knowledge about what is been fitted it is hard to say what you might expect.

My system isthe latest model 12v to 12v projects charger factory fitted designed to charge from the car alternator,the caravan battery has its own separate battery charger that runs off 240 vots..

I think he's talking about a Projector DC-DC charger Hylife.
Ron, while your battery is charging it will get whatever your DC-DC charger is programmed to output depending on the state of charge... ie, up to 14V during bulk charge and dropping off to around 13.6 at float... And Briche's reply isn't taking the DC-DC charger into account.
