Anyone driving on the road around Hervey Bay area keep a sharp lookout for a slightly flattened Chinaman. Yesterday morn I had a routine eye test at Drs. Cover the left eye & read the chart I was told. All okay. Now cover the right eye & read the chart again. What chart?? I said. I could not even see a chart let alone any letters. So off post haste to the optometrist for a scan of retina. Not good. So immediately sent to an eye specialist & although I knew I had a slight macula problem which I have been checking it has suddenly turned into "wet" macula degeneration. So now an emergency appointment has been made for me to see eye surgeon tomorrow morning at 9am. Closest specialist I could get into in a hurry. I need injections into the macula to save the sight in this let eye. So as it is at least 2 1/2 hrs. drive we will have to leave Burrum Heads at the crack of dawn.
Just been advised first chemo session is Fri 22/4 at 11.15 Cheers from a slightly miffed Alice

Sorry to hear that, my sister has been battling Wet Macula for a few years now. Every 3 weeks to a month she flies from Pt Lincoln to Adelaide to get the injections in both eyes.
They are slowly deteriorating & she knows she is going blind. So sad, at 72 she is still very active, walks kms every day, loves crafty things and she has a lot of talent.

Can't imagine how that feels Alice, coming on top of the earlier dramas. I just hope that in your case bad things do NOT come in threes.

Sorry to read this Alice. You didnt say where you are having to drive 2 and half hours to. Or have my eyes gone too.
Won't be seeing you at chemo in HB unfortunately. All mine has to be done in Brisbane.
I will start a new thread in Health and Wellbeing. Mines getting worse too.
Good luck Alice.

Sorry Marg I meant to say - drive to Maroochydore. Did that today. They did some sort of a angiogram where they inject a die into a cannula in back of hand & it goes to eyes & immediately they take photos. So diagnosis is Yes I need injections into left eye. They have to first organise approval from Medibank for me to have this drug. First injection will be next Tues. 19/4. at Hervey Bay & then probably one a month for 3 months & then after that they will decide how often it will be required. Sorry to hear we won't be able to hold hands at the oncology place but I will certainly be keeping you in my thoughts. Alice

How long are you staying at Burrum Heads, Alice?
Why do they need approval from Medibank? Must be expensive, I suppose. Good luck with the first injection - could not imagine anything like an injection in my eye - would be scared, I think.

Hi Jules I think I meant Medicare not Medibank. Injection appointment now changed to Wed Morning. We are leaving Burrum Heads on Sat. Moving to Racecourse at Torbanlea - just down the road. We will then move to Maryborough to house sit on 27/4. Looking forward to caching up with the 2 of you. Cheers Alice
