There was a fallen tree on the road, the lady in the stopped vehicle on the right of screen had hit the tree, damaging her vehicle (in the early part of the video you can see her skid marks after hitting the tree - probably ripped the front end out of her vehicle).
First truck (with dash cam) stops to check she is OK - while they are talking the other truck comes around the corner - I think it safe to assume at a speed that is legal on that part of the road.
That truck driver sees the fallen tree, another truck stopped - partially blocking the road - and a car stopped on the verge.
With very little chance to do anything but to do an emergency stop, and with trailer brakes locked on, the truck driver did an incredible job washing off speed and negotiating between the stopped truck and the damaged car.
In this instance, that driver saved three lives, including his own, and minimised the outcome of what was a very dangerous, unforeseen, situation.
I hope I never end up in the situation of either of the three in this incident.
Goes to show you can never know 'what is around the corner' - other than be prepared for ANYTHING.

Consider this before you make any judgement. Is the tree the issue? Trees fall down all the time don't they?
What if it wasn't a tree. What if it was you with your van. You had been driving sensibly and as you approached the corner your car engine simply failed. With no power to continue on and nowhere to pull off the roadway you had no choice but to stop on the road, right near where that tree would have been. With your wife still in your car, you exit your vehicle to inspect the engine bay and possibly warn approaching traffic of the danger. Along comes truck 1, "Hey mate, you OK? Need any help?"
"My engine just stopped", says you.
Now comes that 2nd truck. He sees you last minute and pulls that pointless emergency stop. The 2nd truckie would have killed you instantly, and your wife may have been permanently mamed or killed as the truck steamrolled over the top of you, your van and car. The sliding trailer on truck 2 now slams sideways at speed into truck 1, seriously injuring that driver.
What do you think now?
The tree wasn't the problem. Plain and simple, if you travel at a speed that prevents you from stopping within the visible distance, then by definition you are speeding.
You must always travel at a speed suitable for the prevailing conditions and that 2nd truckie wasn't and would have been booked for dangerous driving.
Not only was he speeding for the conditions but his trailer brake bias was not set correctly. If it was, his trailer on that dry sealed road would not have tried to pass him in that emergency stop.

I have in fact I've had it since I were 19 years old and I will be 60 in December this year got my B -double licence about 3 years ago when did you last sit a drivers licence test ? in fact I'm in my semi right now in st arnaud Vic waiting to unload at Ridley.

Speeding is defined as driving over the posted speed limit or at a speed that is inappropriate given the driving conditions (e.g. rain, fog, traffic volume, traffic flow).
Given what circumstances we know from the footage, which isn't much, I doubt the proofs for the offence could be proved.

This is certainly an A Grade rant. It is obvious without the author even mentioning it, that he is a truck driver and will defend to the death all truck drivers no matter what they do.
That he is able to describe the actions and reactions of the driver of the offending truck in such detail tells me that he has some sort of power of telepathy.
Let's just be thankful that we have a truckdriver (the one with the camera) that was able to record a halfwit driving his truck in a dangerous manner. That no-one was injured or killed is pure luck, not good driving.
Now that this video has been aired on the Internet ad nauseum, I hope the owners of the errant truck do the righty and sack the idiot driver forthwith.

Cr@p. All modern trucks can have the braking force adjusted based on the load you are pulling. Too many lazy @rse truckies don't bother setting it with each load.
And the hypothesis I made was to replace the tree with a broken down vehicle. Go park your car and van where that tree was and nothing but death ensues. There was no skill in that driver, by sheer good luck he didn't kill everyone on the scene. Just listen to the fear coming from the truck that was already stopped. And i know all too well how long it takes to stop a truck, and, to build up speed again, but you slow down when entering a corner you can't see around, same as you do in any vehicle. To barrel along at speed around a corner like that is just plain dangerous if you can't stop quickly.
If any vehicle travels at a speed that does not allow that vehicle to stop within the visible distance (in most countries it is mandated at half the visible distance) then you are either speeding or not paying attention to the conditions. Dangerous driving. Simple. And I think it would be a certain bet that the driver was booked once the constabulary watched the video.

The other obviously thought he was Jack Brabham in his Repco, but par for the course with truckies I guess. Yes I do have a semi licence, yes I have set foot in a truck, do I really need to though - what price common sense!

Have to agree, The Truck was speeding and couldn't stop and hit a tree. The car was just unlucky when it hit the tree. As for putting a car and caravan in place of the tree I am sure the car and van would have been a lot easier to see. Also if it was your car broke down in such a position the first thing you would do is go out and place your triangles on the road.

First let me say at the time I posted I were not aware that the car was hit and I am pleased that the lady driver of the car was clear and unhurt

Phantom you are wrong first up I am a dry land broad acre wheat farmer not a full time truck driver as you state I deliver some of what I grow to feed mills and dairy farmers in my own truck ,,,, now as for defending truck drivers no matter what they do well guess what wrong again I know that there are some truck drivers out there that do the wrong thing I also know from my travels in a truck and in my car that there is a much higher percentage of car drivers that are idiots then truck drivers ,,,, and as for the idiot truck driver getting sacked why should he be sacked why not the car driver as well after all did she not drive over the very same log across the road clearly she was driving too fast also or she would have been able to stop before runing over the tree

As for the rest of your post I can only ask how you can accuse the truck of speeding for running over the tree but don't consider the car driver to have been speeding who also run over the very same tree perhaps the word biased could be used here as you used to discribe me
Toglhot again why not charge the car driver too oh and have you heard that almost all trucks are speed limited to 100 kph and there is very high fines for messing with a speed limiters for the driver ,the owners and the person who changed it

Good summation, Woody. The perceptions/opinions/expertise of posters on topics such as this constantly amuse/intrigue/surprise me.
All I could add is to simply quote what I said earlier in this long thread -
"With very little chance to do anything but to do an emergency stop, and with trailer brakes locked on, the truck driver did an incredible job washing off speed and negotiating between the stopped truck and the damaged car.
