I had similar with one of my cars where they wanted me to take to car to a certain workshop in town to be inspected to make sure it was not a wreck. That was just after YOUI came on the market - they dropped that system after a year or so as people wanted simplicity and insurance companies build into their premium the occasional 'con'. We had our van insured with CIL for market value with no valuation required but since changed.
I personal;ly would seek another insurer although if you are insuring for a fixed amount as distinct from market value it may affect it.
Good Luck.

I'd think twice about CIL. We bought a van from a very good friend (motor mechanic) who had serviced the wheel bearings and brakes before we bought it. We set off on our 8 month trip and had a bearing fail near Kalbarri WA causing considerable damage to hub, brakes, backing plate etc. I will admit we had traveled some VERY rough roads around the Gulf and the Kimberley. We had it repaired in Kalbarri after reporting the incident to CIL. Long story short, they denied the claim because "the owner (me) had not maintained the van properly". I understand that wheel bearing failure is not covered but damage resulting from the failure is. My point, (that they refused to listen to or acknowledge), was that I had no reason to service the bearings etc. as we hadn't had the van for 12 months at that stage. A case I believe of using any reason to deny a claim. Good luck with your search, and let us know what you decide. We cancelled our policy with CIL and will be buying a new van soon.

We do valuations for CIL, Ken Tame etc., for $100 fee but you must bring the vehicle/caravan to us.

I have Coaster insured for agreed value with Ken Tame. Have to get it revalued every two years in order to keep the agreed value policy going. Use an online valuer - saves having to take the bus somewhere for it to be done. I think I paid about $160 in 2014 for it to be done by a company that advertised in the CMCA magazine, and which is recognized by Ken Tame. Was the easy way to do it, so worth the money.

Brownie we decided to go with the racv comprehensive bit pricey at $1045 agreed value but they never asked for an independent valuation etc which I was surprised about !
Racv have a good reputation and I already have a few other policies with them so I guess that must have helped ... my vehicle built oct 2010 its only done 40000km since I've had it still as new condition .
