Well I got sucked in by Telstra , got an Email " We ' re sorry about the disruption to the Telstra mobile network last Tuesday.....blah blah "
"As a small gesture we're giving you - as a Telstra mobile customer - free mobile data within Australia this Sunday" .
I rung my Doughter on my mobile I thought it was free , ( I should have known better when dealing with ripoff merchants )to make it short ,$ 40 down the drain. I wish those S..th..ds would not have send me the Email.
Cheers

Phone calls are not Data Recoup. Data is when using the internet or watching utube etc and that's Internet too.
Easy to misunderstand though. Never mind, at least you got to soeak to your Daughter, that was a good thing, thanks to Telstra so spose they are not that bad

I got the same Telstra "sorry" letter which was sent sometime Saturday night/ Sunday morning in the dark hours. They certainly didn't want people to be too organized and ready to use too much data by leaving the letter till the 11th hour - previous advice had only come through news media reports and I don't rely on these quick to print or talk people !!
I do have some sympathy for Recoup though - the letter could have been clearer and said it excluded voice communications through the usual range of mobile or fixed line phones.
We could turn it into a conspiracy theory that Telstra did make the letter a little vague to snare lots of folk like Recoup into making expensive phone calls that might not otherwise have made in order to cover giving away the free data (which should have been on a week day for all the businesses who suffered, but weren't open Sunday) lol

Telstra bashing again , It had been on the media for days that Telstra was going to give unlimited internet on Sunday " internet ", not voice or SMS , They then sent out email to make sure we were informed and people still complain far go .

It was advertised so much no one should have missed the announcement.
Also whenever I checked my usage a box came up first announcing it, I had to click ok to go any further.

I didn't see any adds for it, and I probably deleted to Telstra sms, as I normally do. They are always sending SMSs of different offers.

Gday...
I too have sympathy for Recoup and his misunderstanding.
However, as also stated in this thread, it was WIDELY covered in the media for days - every day (not as ads but as news items) leading up to Sunday.
Additionally, an email was sent to those who had a 'internet/data' account, very clearly stating that there was 'free' data for Sunday 14 Feb.
Just how much 'hand holding' needs to be done to get a message across
At least Recoup, and anyone else who has now read through this thread, will now know that mobile phone usage is NOT data/internet usage.
It is just unfortunate that Recoup is considerably out of pocket because of his misunderstanding.
Cheers - John

Yes I usually do.
I have done away with my laptop wireless dongle and just use my phone. If I need to go on the laptop I have an active hotspot on my phone.
I have 2Ggs on my phone, if I use it all up Telstra automatically add another one for $10.
Since I decided to do it this way I'm saving myself $50 a month.

Yep, I kept a close watch on data usage on my 4G wireless modem, downloaded about 3GB of data throughout the day, and it didn't budge. I wasn't affected by the outage but don't feel at all guilty about taking advantage of the offer!

Have never run out CC.
In my opinion Telstra is a great provider, reliable, reasonably priced, and excellent area coverage, have been with them for over twenty years, except for a brief period with Optus which was a disaster.
We have 2 x mobile phones, a broadband connection and a home line with them, very happy.
