They were rated number 5 in the top ten tow vehicles. I see lots of then on the road towing vans. I've owned a couple of petrol GC but never towed with then. I use a wrangler to tow a 2 ton van. Never had any problems.
Now over to the usual Jeep bashers

Bryan. Hopefully Jeep have sorted out their problems now - its just those that bought particular models in 2012-2014 that seemed to have copped it. Interesting to see people are still buying VW's even though they have also copped major flak throughout the world.......
Our federal pollies (god bless them, as no-one else does) should have introduced the USA lemon laws on faulty capital priced items. The lemon laws, as they are known, have been in place over their for a while now and gives the seller only a couple of times to fix the problem before having to provide a full refund of the purchase price and take back their now used goods. Its my understanding that they are not allowed to re-sell such goods either.......does anyone have good info on the USA lemon laws to enlighten us all with?

Hi Jackie, if the budget can stretch to the 8 speed model which came out in 2013 it is a great tow vehicle, we tow a 3 ton off road van no problems. Been down the Birdsville, up the Oodnadatta and across the Savannah Way with no problems. A lot of the earlier issues were with electronics/computer systems that have been mostly eliminated with upgrades to the jeeps software. Cruising at 90/95 get 7 litres/100 km. Most of the knockers have never sat in one let alone towed and tell stories about a friend of a friend etc. Must be pretty good as there are an awful lot out there towing.

I have a 2014 JGC diesel, fantastic tow vehicle, I tow a 22 ft Jayco Silverline and get 14 litres per 100 towing van and 7 litres without the van.
There has been a lot of unwarranted talk about the Jeep but are a great vehicle.

Hi Rod,
thanks for your comments and yes would love to be able to afford the later models with the 8 speed transmission, however that can't happen, do you think the electrics on the older ones would have been rectified within the lower k's, or is it an ongoing problem.
Cheers

Hi Jackie
We too are very happy Jeep GC owners, ours is the 2014 with the 8 speed and it tows like a dream. Last year we had 3 months on the road and did 15,000 kms towing a 2.8t van and it did not miss a beat. Averaged 12.8lts per 100 kms for the whole trip which is a combination of with and without van. The worst we got was heading into breeze across the nulabour when we hit the 18's but I like to sit on 95 to 100kph.
We have just upgraded to a bigger van and are looking forward to getting out there again.
I for one tell all who will listen that the Jeep GC has been fantastic.

Hey Bruce, in the 14 years I've been in Australia, I had one Toyota and 4 Grand Cherokees. Never had any problems with either Toyota or the Jeeps.
I try not to ask advice on anything on forums these days for obvious reasons.
Sorry for hijacking your thread Jackie.

Hi Jackie.
We are only new grey nomads and have a 2013 Turbo Diesel Grand Cherokee auto. We tow a 21 ft safari van with a maximum weight of 2.6 ton. I just love our jeep. Last year we travelled for 6 months and did about 25000 k's without any problems. I know I have nothing to compare it to, being newcomers to this great life, but from my point of view its great. We will be heading off in April for a trip of about 6 months, starting in S.A. before heading up the centre, eventually to Qld and have no qualms heading on this trip.

Oops sorry guys, seniors moment as I was thinking 7 km for each litre so meant 14 to 15 litres/100m. Wish I could get that! :) maybe down a mountain with a tailwind.

Hi Jacqui did you end up going with the Jeep GC? Ive got the 2012 GC with V6 diesel and pull a 25 foot outback van (3100kg Tare). Whilst it doesnt love pulling up the hills like the old LandCruiser did, its been a great tow vehicle and I can highly recommend!
