I guess I can stick with WIN7 for a bit longer yet

I only have 7 windows Rocky, unless you count the door, then that would make 8.
Yeh, I know, off to the naughty room.

@ Rockylizard ( John )
I installed win 10
Quite a few programs won't work with it what was no problem in Win 7
Beside that I use the ClassicShellSetup what made it a lot easier to run
One mayor problem was that it didn't let me convert back to Win 7
So I have to live with it for the time been
I would say stick with Win 7
Cheers John

Luckily we haven't been stupid enough to install the Windows 10 update. We know quite a few professional IT people that have ALL advised us not to.

I installed Windows 10 around three weeks ago and so far I'm pretty happy with it. All my programs migrated across from 7 without any problems and are all working as expected.
I have found that it does start up and open faster than Windows 7 did, and Internet connections appear to be more efficient and connect faster to the chosen WiFi outlet.
The main reason for going with Windiws 10 as opposed to staying with Windiws 7, was because some updates with 7 would not register as having been installed and would keep trying to reinstall, as well as the odd blue screen as a result of me aborting some updates which have not occurred so far with this system. After installing one major security update fully five times, and having thoroughly checked its code number to ensure that it was installed, you are entitled to hit it on the head, blue screen or not.
All I can hope for is that with this OS from Microsoft they have taken onboard all of the latest hacking methods and have structured the OS in such a way as to be a bit safer than previous operating systems, and that it is stable enough to stand up to a few years of use and updates that actually do what they are supposed to to.

both the BOSS and I have been on W10 for about 3+ months now after going into a big software and computer repair shop and getting their advice about W10.
We've had no problems with it, other than getting your head around new names for the same stuff - programmes are now called Apps so it can be a bit mind twisting to start with.
One of the things that the repair shop told us was that M/S will soon stop supporting W7 and so they will not write "fixes" to download as they are still currently doing.

Still got a few years of support for Windows 7 - http://www.cnet.com/news/microsoft-to-discontinue-windows-7-8-1-on-new-pcs-in-one-year/
Hi Bill. I wasnt aware M/S were being that pushy......
We were both on W8.1 and the transition to W10 wasn't that great in terms of change - in fact they have brought back some nice W7 features that they had removed in W8.
When we were 1st "invited" to take up W10, we ticked the "might be interested but not right now" box. They didn't keep nagging us and we waited for some time before accepting it. Several of our friends were invited and decided to stay with W7 or W8 - they weren't harassed by M/S or invited again after saying no - so it does surprise me to read the link you've posted

Gday..
The solution to this 'unwanted' 'forced' download and install of WIN10 is to set your pooter for NO AUTOMATIC UPGRADES/DOWNLOADS.
You do this through Control Panel and set it to 'check' but to 'let me choose' - this is what you will get in WIN7 -
That way YOU choose whether to accept and install, reject or ignore these constant updates to your system.

What you post is true, but the downloads mentioned in the articles make no mention of Windows 10.
They come up as recommended updates so you think you are doing the right thing by downloading and installing them.

When you shift to Windows 10 you will no longer have control of what you update. Window Update(in 10) installs all updates automatically and no longer allows users to selectively install updates (Source: Wikipedia)
Also, only the Pro Edition of the OS can delay the automatic installation of new editions of the platform.
So folks, install Windows 10 and hand control of your computer to Microsoft.
Good luck with that.

If you really don't want to upgrade to windows 10 and don't want the extra Win10 garbage that automatic updates installs on your computer, install GWX Control Panel

Sorry Peter how absolutely silly of me.
I am still using WIN7 and I foolishly thought that anyone not wanting to have WIN10 automatically download/install to their pooter would not be using WIN10 anyway.
Hence I said QUOTE this is what you will get in WIN7 UNQUOTE
I guess I should be more careful in providing advice on the forum.
