HELLO TO ALL, NEW THIS SORT OF THING SO HERE GO. WIFE AND I ARE GOING TO TAS IN FEB THIS YEAR. LEAVING ON THE MORNING FERRY. I AM TRYING TO FIND CARAVAN ACCOMODATION FOR TWO DAYS BEFORE LEAVING, REASONABLY CLOSE TO THE TERMINAL. I WILL BE APPROACHING MELBOURNE FROM THE SOUTH EAST AND WOULD PREFER TO STAY THAT SIDE OF THE MAIN CITY. ANY SUGGESTIONS WELCOME.

Welcome to the gang RILEY, enjoy here and out in the playground.
You could try Pakenham Caravan Park or Akuna Park (showground) in berwick. Both close to the freeway to get to the ferry early.
Keep Safe on the roads.

I can recommend the showgrounds at Berwick. $22.00 a nite, but only charged me $20.00. Good showers and toilet, dump point, water and grey water drainage, and of course power. Stayed there a few times and will be back there end of March. Good shopping within walking distance inc. Aldi. If you are there on a Sunday, there is a big market on the showgrounds. It is a good 1 hour drive from Berwick to Port Melbourne and you want to be at the wharf 1.5 hours before sailing time. Distance is 48 km via M1 but longer if you don't want to travel on toll roads.

Hi Allan (and your good wife to the Forum), The caravan park (usually referred to as CP on here) at Berwick is in fact Akoonah Park and run by the showgrounds committee. As the others have said, it a great place to stay and the cheapest in Melbourne metro with plenty of room. If you are there on a Sunday morning, expect to be woken early as the stall holders at the Sunday market are not the quietest, so you may here car door slamming, coughing and loud talking and laughter from a few of them round 4am in the morning.
Otherwise, Ken has described it perfectly above.
If you haven't already done so, spend the $4 a year and subscribe to wikicamps - has the biggest list of free/low cost and Cp's in Australia. It tells you about each site (the info comes from other users of this site) and has a list of its facilities and if its not free, how much and contact names and/or phone numbers - including the one at Berwick
