My gas hot water system. Turns on okay. But then goes off in about 20 seconds? .

did it happen after the van had not been used for quite a time or shortly after driving on a metal road for example?
It could be a ruptured hose or it may have developed a kink in it preventing gas getting to the burner under your fridge or it might be the burner itself which may have some muck in it (or accumulated dust). The fact that it starts, albeit it, for a short time, suggests its a gas supply problem.

Are we talking of running on Gas??
If so it could be the gas fuse on the bottle shutting off because it thinks there s a leak, push the dial in and out about 7 times and try again. Make sure you can run the gas stove ok then try the heater again. (mine often has this problem as I always have the stove running then turn off the bottles so it empties the line each time i pack up.)

A similar problem on mine was caused by gunk in the regulator. I changed it & all OK.

when my hot water system has not been used for a while on gas
it might take 3 or 4 times to kick in

I reckon Cupie is on the money as we had a similar problem with our gas stove - would light and run for 20 seconds or so then stop, wait a minute and relight and would repeat. Regulator replaced and all OK.
Good Luck.

Hi Smiley, did you get your gas hot water sorted. I got caught out. Same thing. It turned out that I had to take an exhaust cover off. All the other vans I had never had to remove cover.
