Ducks as pets took a new meaning on for me recently - we were staying at a van park in Busselton (WA) and decided to go for a stroll to the beach. Walking just in front of us were a young Asian couple carrying a large white duck. When they reached the beach they placed the duck on the sand and the lady then walked into the water with the duck obediantly following her. I guess it may be common in Asian countries but I've never seen a duck in salt water before.
The Asian gentleman told me he breeds ducks for 'the trade' and his girlfriend wanted to have a personal duck to bond to her from the day it hatched. Lucky duck.
Awww...... I too had a wonderful khaki campbell for a while managed to get him eating out of my hand and coming along when I called him........ Donald ........ Bloody father in law gave us a dog.......... Went shopping ........

I live in BUSSELTON, not unusual to see our wild ducks swimming in the bay at all, must say it surprised me first time I saw it though..

We're with Birdlife Australia & spend around 6 months of every year photographing birds all over our country, Ducks are common in salt water almost everywhere. Still an interesting post though.

What surprised me most was that someone took their duck to the beach for a swim - then again I have taken a bird to the beach.
Good Luck.
