Hi a newby here, back in the early 80s I did a trip along the Gibb river road from Derby to Wynham, that in its self was special, on the road for three weeks and only saw about 7 vehicles. All the creeks and rivers running. Great and fantasic camp sites besides waterfalls but what happened one day as we having a cuppa, we were approached by one of last truely bush aboriginal family in the Kimberley's Only the eldest male came towards us then stopped until he felt right. The family consisted of 1 older 2 younger males, three females and three little ones. They stayed about 200 mtrs away,We sort of communicated by sign language and what little language I knew. He pointed at a water 5 ltr water bottle so I gave it him. There was plenty of water around so he probably wanted for later on. We also gave him some apples and flour. He went back to his family and came back and gave my wife a small bush carry bag , she still has it and my son and daughter a stone they kept them also . Even today my son and daughter remember that once in a life time encounter. Didn't take photos in case of offending them. Still have the memory though.

G'day Dave...and welcome to GN's.
What a wonderful memory for you and your family to share. Sometimes no photos are needed because you can picture the event in your mind's eye whenever you choose to.
Safe and happy travels.

I made some inquiries about them and found that there had been sightings by a few locals, sadly I later found out the old man died and the family eventually moved to a community close to where we saw them. I visited the community and found one of the women and she remembered me and showed me the water bottle we gave them inside a weaved bush basket. Still it was a wonderful life long memory.

A great story Dave, and the way you unfolded it gave me a tingle being a Wyndham School kid from 1945 to 1946.
