because the smoke has particles it will affect your signal, the density of the smoke will determine how much

A similar effect to rain between your dish and the satellite.
The heavier the rain the more the signal is reduced (attenuated) smoke may have the same effect if it is dense enough.
you will first notice some "glitches" or pixellating of the picture. It will come back on it's own when the rain/smoke clears to get enough signal again.

Hi all;
Smoke or heavy rain will affect your signal. The satellight 38,000 Kms away from earth and the signal is very weak, so the size of the dish plays a big roll in how much signal is fed to your LMB. So if you have a small dish the smoke or heavy rain would affect the signal to the point of the picture would start to pixilate and drop out ( no signal ).
Only way to get the best chance of obtaining a good signal in inclement weather is to use the right size dish. Vast recomend that one uses a 80 cm dish for Australia, this sized dish also makes trying to find your satellight ( C1 ) easyer.

In my humble opinion if the smoke is thick enough to interfere with reception then you should be moving not watching TV. Where there is smoke there is fire soon behind.

That was my initial thought, but what if you are in a remote location and you need satellite TV to receive information about the fire?

The reason that I posted this, was that, if I was camping, what communication options would I have.
