I have said this before and I need to say it again.
We need a Grey Nomad flag.
In a quick check of this forum, I found suggestions for a flag as early as 2012. I raised this issue about a year ago, and got a response from Cindy advising that there were problems with the proposed supplier and alternatives were being investigated. Unless I have missed something, no progress has been reported.
We already have access to polo shirts, caps and bumper stickers, all of which identify a fellow grey nomad from a distance of 5 or 10 metres. I believe we need a small window clip-on type flag, as seen flapping from vehicles on Australia Day, football final weekends, and any other occasion that stirs up Australians. They are cheap, you dont need a flag pole, and importantly (if the design is simple) you can identify them from a reasonable distance.
I have read posts on his forum like Is there anyone else at ***camp. Maybe with flags to easily identify us, such posts might be unnecessary. We are not inclined to walk around a campground asking people whether they contribute to this forum so it isnt surprising that in several years of travel, we have only met one other GN. We enjoy a happy hour with whoever is camped nearby, but despite emptying a lot of bottles, we are still waiting to encounter our first GN.
We intend to go around the block starting in autumn, and hope to meet some fellow GNs along the way. A flag would be a great catalyst.

A great idea. Its surprising when you free camp with others in the same area or in a CP (although not so social in CP's as most shut themselves inside with the TV late arvos) as to how many people belong to the Forum - but Ive never seen anyone wearing a polo shirt, cap or have a sticker on their rig. Maybe people don't like to be branded "Grey" in the logo ???????

I had to wear uniform all my working life and don't want to do so in retirement , Also some people enjoy their own company and just like the peace and being away by themselves . If you need to meet up on the road you just have to post where you are and looking for a catch up and it will happen .

Tie some silver or grey ribbon to your aerial. What with the sticker and ribbon, everybody should know who you are.

I have a grey beard so should be easily recognizable
But it is a good idea to have some way of id'ing members who wish that
I have ordered the stickers so that will help

i support a flag idea you could fix it to an awning or other and it could be seen from a distance like at greens. stickers on the back of vans work when driving but when parked its a bit different cheers

We already fly an aussie flag so a GN flag would be on the other side of the front window.

I am another supporter of a flag I currently have stickers on both van and tug and I have when traveling posted location and to date have only met one other member but I have not been to Greens yet,
I fly an Australian flag from my van and another one would give balance and let people know I am a proud member of the forum and like the other gear in the shop if you don't want to use it you don't have to buy it.

A sticker is quite adequate. Flying an ''Old Farts'' flag would probably attract a percentage of ridicule in our opinion. We're not ashamed of being Senior Australians but advertising the fact with a flag would make us look pretty stupid!

I didn't expect that this would get universal acceptance but even those who want peace and solitude might benefit from flags. When they drive into a campground and see flags they would know where to setup to avoid them. As for advertising the fact that I am old... one look and all doubt is erased!

Stickers, flags! not for us the last thing we need is total strangers imposing themselves on us.
We were sitting outside our van a few weeks back, enjoying a late evening meal and a bottle of white when a couple wandered up and proceeded to unload their life and medical history , we certainly did nothing to encourage them, however almost an hour later they were still ear bashing us, had to make some feeble excuse to go inside and get away from them, not sure if the penny dropped when 10 mins after they had gone we moved outside again and finished our wine, unharassed.
We meet a lot of nice people on the road, sometimes we share a drink, sometimes not.
Just don't feel a need to advertise for everyone who pulls in to come and socialise.
