Yes KJ, that is a classic, and now us Aussies need a revamp to show our independence.
We don't want to go down the Pommy Path, and get half our suburbs so Islamic we are too scared to go to the shops.
God help them.

I think you could be asking for a slap on the hand,
If you start something with Political reference on this Forum , Young Simmo.
Lets just say, Being Independent is the way to go, with-out any outside influence,
I think, by having our own flag, it shows clearly who we are,
but there is one more thing that I would like to have seen on the new flag,
( if it should pass the Referendum ) that is , NO NOT A SHEEPS HEAD, "JEEEZ"
Maybe some reference to,
The Land of the long white cloud.

It seems that New Zealanders are still just as stupid as Australians. Both will still be kissing English arse for years to come.
However, polling indicates the current flag is still on track to beat any contender in next year's run-off referendum.

Not political but practical!
A silver fern flag is going to be very difficult to sew, making them more expensive than previously. I suspect that almost all silver fern flags will end up being printed on polyester.
(Joining two colours for a start. Then zig zagging around the fern fronds. The old Union Jack had straight line sewing and the flag was on one colour.)

I take your point, but don't we nowdays kiss the Indonesian, Chinese and still the Amercian butts? The UK is spent as a world power, Aussies and Kiwis don't get into their country easily anymore (and hard to get permission to work or stay long term) - that's left for Europeans and refugees who have unrestricted access to England if they are from the EU. I'm all for both countries to become republics - the commonwealth is a spent force and well past its use by date. We could employ a young skimpy as our President and think of all the tourists and their money she (or even he) would pull into our sagging economy
As far as the NZ flag goes, the cost so far of reaching this decision is $NZ20M (about $A18M).
And most flags are not made in either NZ or Aust, they are printed and made in China, Vietnam or India including the one flying above the Federal Parliament building because its cheaper !!

$NZ20M is outrageous, but what is an acceptable price for independence, dignity and self respect? In any case, why can't referendums (referenda?) be held in conjunction with general elections? Then you get two for the price of one.

Hi everyone. Thanks for your input on this but I think I'll close this now. I have removed a couple of negative comments here and would just encourage everyone to keep posts friendly. Thanks.

Gday...
The answers to your questions are within this link - http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-35059898
It advises -
The final result will be announced on Tuesday after late and overseas votes are counted, and may change as the winning margin is narrow.
A second referendum will be held in March to decide whether to adopt the new flag, or keep the existing one.
Cheers - John
