We're interested in other peoples travel experiences away from caravanning or motor homing. This year we've taken our car only over to Tasmania on the Spirit of Tassie & done a 15 night trip staying in cabins. We recently flew to Norfolk Island for a week staying in a flat driving around with a hire car. Next year we're planning a 3 week fly/hire car trip to Darwin & Kakadu staying in lodges, resorts & cabins. We find these kind of trips a welcome break from endlessly towing our caravan around. Do other people enjoy these different modes of travel as a break from the norm? Looking for ideas.

Absolutely wonderful to have trips around the country in that manner, I know it would certainly suit my better half to travel in catered luxury rather than living in a caravan.
However because we wish to travel this beautiful wide country and only have limited finances available, doing the grey nomad bit is the only way we can afford to do so......... and I must admit I love it.

We did the ghan from Darwin to Adelaide Gold class great trip , Flight into darwin did day trips out of Darwin to Kakadu and to Lichfield and lots to see around Darwin , Thinking of doing Tasmania not sure weather to take the car on the ferry or just fly in and hire a car .

Over the last 6 years we have done 2 cruises a year. Being on the sea gives us a good change of pace.

We go overseas approx. every 2 years.. We've driven through England and ferry to France driven through Switzerland to Italy and back through Germany. Holland etc..
A few months back we took our family and two grandchildren to U.S for 5 weeks.. yes talk about compressed .. Hired a Ford 15 seater Transit..
Drove from L.A through Vegas, Colorado, Naperville nr Chicago where my brother lives.. Then New York.. Then back through Tennessee, Texas, San Diego, Hawaii for a REST then flight home..
Next week we going on 12 day cruise on Pacific Pearl around the Islands..
We have a Florida holiday we have to take soon too.. Next winter ??
So much to do in so little time...

We try to get on a cruise each year, depends on the $$$$. Cabins are about the same size as a van but the food is so much better and NO dishes..

My husband and also also like to try and get away on a cruise every year. We recently road tripped it up to Cairns (from Brisbane) along the coast road then headed inland. We just wish we had a caravan to travel in (on our to do list!).

Have you been to Lord Howe Island? We did a week trip a few years ago.
Book well in advance if you want a hire car as their are only about six on the island, other wise it`s a hire bike. It`s worth a visit.

We manage one overseas trip about every 12 months.
This year we visited Italy and stopped over in Northern Thailand for a couple of weeks on the way home.
2015 we have a trip organised to the East coast of the USA, starting in Maryland.

Book well in advance if you want a hire car as their are only about six on the island, other wise it`s a hire bike. It`s worth a visit.
Another vote for Lord Howe Island, it's great. We enjoyed cycling & walking with little or no traffic.

Oxley travel specialize in Lord Howe travel. Norfolk Select are also good. We flew Qantas from Melbourne to Sydney then QantasLink prop plane to the island. Don't forget to do a boat trip to Ball's Pyramid. If you enjoy nature, magnificent scenery & don't mind a bit of exercise you'll love Lord Howe. Don't bother booking a car, you don't need one.
