Maybe twice a year I will clean under the lid and down the bottom, still only with the wipes. Works for me. I have had a Q since first on the market.
I love my Q.

I find it depends what you use for will depend on what you need to clean , If just BBQ or scones wipe are great , if you do a lot of roast and chickens you do get a big grease build up for which I use non toxic oven cleaner leave for couple hour and blast off with water jet , Only do this to the inside of my Baby Q not the outside

Depends what is stuck on plate ? I usually just wipe it down after and before each use..
I have used Cola or suger on hot plate ti lift any burnt crud ' then just clean it all off ...
washing detergent with a little Domestoss wipe everything down..
Like to leave a little fat on the plate much to Mrs disgust .. Lol

I have no trouble with the cook grill it's the fat build in the wall of the body of the baby Q , After you have cooked a few chickens , Just recently had a fire in the bottom of the baby Q

I just pour a pot full of very hot soapy water into the BBQ and then hose it out thouroughly with the blast of the jet stream, same for the grill although a after brush with the wire brush is often required for that.
I do it after every 5 or 6 BBQ's or before I change locations ( unless the location is not suitable, then I just wipe it out).

A bit off topic but still on baby Q.
I find that when BBQing whether using grill or plate it doesnt seem to get hot enough to cook a good steak. To get the heat up the lid must be closed on mine so end up getting a roasted steak rather than bbqed.
Is there anyway of getting more flame and heat out of it?
Regards cleaning, with mine it again seems to be lack of heat that prevents most of the fat being burnt away.
Wife is a Vegetarian so its only me that uses it so instead I have an old fry pan that I mostly use on open fire or outdoor stove, heats up quickly and less cleanup for just one steak and a couple of bangers!

Nigel, I turn the heat up HIGH with lid closed for at least 30 mins before putting the steak on. Two minutes each side with lid closed has the perfect med rare steak that I love. Yes, I still like to hear a little moo. Pepper Sauce or garlic prawns sitting on top, yummo.
The hotter the grill the better. The Q is designed to cook with lid closed.
Give me a steak on my Q anytime.
Have I said I love my Q?

There are two models of baby Q available, the one with the flatter top with no temperature gauge, and the other only available by authorized Webber outlets which has a higher lid and gauge. The baby Q must be really hot to cook steak, and must be used with the lid down. The temp gauge lets one know when the temps up there. Opening the lid loses heat quickly. Also other factors like being side on to a breeze, or just having the unit out in the breeze will cool it down.
Try again, good pre-heating is essential.

Thanks Doug and iana,
I thought my q might be a bit down on gas but I guess you are right just need to allow it to heat up. Seems like I will have to be a bit time.

....and if the lid gets very smokey & dirty looking & wont come clean....paint it.

How do you clean your baby Q?
I just gave mine a caustic bath, came up good.
