Some advice please. Am thinking of hardening the rear suspension on my Cruiser. We tow a 3+tonne van and with the standard set up it tends to wallow and sway when on rough roads or passing trucks. Are airbags on the rear a good option and if so will I need to do anything with the front end. Thanks for any input.

I am somewhat surprised that no one has responded yet .
We have a 100 series and have installed air bags and found them fantastic .
Just stabilised the back end ,pump up when needed ,must add we also have a 50mm lift kit .
Not sure what yo do on your 200 series surely someone has done it?

We had the same issue with our 200 series, we added air bags to the rear and it solved the problem. As our vehicle was under warranty we contacted Toyota to ensure that by adding the airbags we did not void the warranty. They gave us the all clear to make the modification as long as it was carried out by a reputable dealer (Arb/TJM etc)

I replaced both front and back shocks and had upgraded coils and airbags fitted to rear, I only had to raise by 30mm. All done at Pedder's Liverpool - it took them 3 hours total cost $1900.00

Maybe the vehicle is simply overloaded beyond its design limit?

Had one of the first L200 series - what a lemon.
Why do people still buy an overpriced, over-rated piece of junk.
No wonder their sales are going in a southward direction.
If it wasn't for their sales to the mining industry they would struggle to compete.

Go to well advertised suspension place .. New variable rate springs and shock make Big difference .. Variable rate gives softer ride over small bumps and firms up as spring compresses.. A good set of gas shocks do the same .. Trouble is most are driven on roads these days and manufacturers build suspension to sell on first drive off the showroom floor.. Which is too soft..

cazbaz shame you don't consider reading what a lot Landcruiser owners have done on the Landcruiser online forum. It's free and all the traps are also outlined.

Toyota do a suspension upgrade for new 200s it cost about $4000. and it rates the towing to 3.8t. I only have a Prado myself but its the Grande and airbags are standard giving the rear 3 level positions. When i lower the van onto it it actually raises itself to keep level. Tows well.

Towing just on 3t plus whatever the Toyota is loaded up with it may well be on the limit may I suggest looking at the ball weight to ensure it is not over the 300kg mark. The ball weight not the van weight has more of a bearing on how the rig tows. I believe Toyota to be one of the best off road vehicle manufacturers in the world and a lot of their testing and innovations happen here in Oz. With the mining companies where money is no object they still run fleets of Toyotas. I have been outback and that is all you see .. Toyotas with big Tough V8 Diesels.

How many mining companies carry tons ? Plus van etc ?
They have heavy transporters for that !
They are not Toyotas either..
Don't believe all the advertising...
The problem we use the cheapest and lightest vehicle..
A light truck with better chassis is often a better choice IMO..
Having said that 5 or 10% stronger suspension can make all the difference ..
Our work trucks ( some Toyotas) at Ausgrid where modified before we took deliver due to weight we had over rear axle ..
As they had a few of these vehicles roll on there own single accidents ...
It was found an issue on the early models ..
