We have a 1992 Winnebago motorhome and I noticed recently that we were getting water come in at certain places so I checked the roof and the canvass over the wooden roof has deteriorated so much that there are big tears in it and the wood is rotting underneath. I have been quoted between $10 - $15 thousand to get the roof replaced and a fibreglass roof put on. Has anybody else had experience with this and any suggestions. I can't afford that sort of money and if I had it done I would have to sell up to recoup the money as we are pensioners. I think most modern motorhomes have a fiberglass body already but these older ones have that tight canvass stretched over a wooden roof. It probably has lasted until now unless a previous owner has had it redone. I probably should have been doing regular checks of the roof and sealing where necessary.

No god - didn't know they had canvas roofs back then - could you possibly go to a marine repair, and see what they would charge to fibreglass the top? Don't know if it is possible, but at this stage anything is worth a try I reckon, eh?

Have a look at removing the old stuff and redoing it with liquid rubber cheap about $150 for 15 litres and goes on like paint
very easy to do and two coats dries as one thick membrane

My experience with a canvas roof was to mix white wash with white lead paint and paint the canvas with that.
It worked for the 18 years my Father had the vehicle, it was still waterproof when we sold it in 1961.
I am aware that leaded paint is no longer available but the 'modern paint' should be even better.
It may be worth a try using a little mixture on a small area.
