Probably the closest I have been to meeting St Peter, or the Devil, was in my teens we went hunting for Deer. The hills in NZ can get a little rugged at times, We were following a river up and up, when we came to an area which had slipped and the entire side of the hill (mountain over here) had collapsed into the river. Down below was a very angry river. We needed to climb quite some distance to clear this obstacle, but we noticed that goats had made tracks across it. Could we get across using those tracks?, well we started and as we progressed across, the tracks got smaller and more precarious. We looked down and it looked like it was not quite as steep there so we made our way down, but it was an optical illusion.
When I looked at where I was standing, I/we saw a crack opening up in the path around me. My mate said jump, I jumped and he caught me. The portion of path crumbling down into the ragging river below. I don't remember the events after that and how we got off the face of that landslide. but I will all ways remember that crack opening up.

If you are going to pick on somebody's typing, get it right. You don't start a sentence with the word 'but'. There should have been a comma after 'landslide' but who really cares.

Iana, would this have been in the Tararuas? My dad used to go deerstalking and pig hunting there in the '40s and '50s.

Happywanderer, yes it was in the Tararua ranges, I read books one by Barry Crump, "Good Keen man" and others showing those professional deer stalking guys in the 40's and 50's. They had legs on them like tree trunks (God I hope that didn't over excite you Simmo), ( ------- see comma) and they would carry about 30 green pelts back to base. My brother was a pro deer shooter as a second job in the air force, but I never really got past 1st base.

Yes, I have read all of Barry Crump"s Books Iana. My dad was a dairy farmer, he and his brothers, cousins etc would go up into the hills as an extra activity.
That must be where I inherited mine from. I have always referred to my leg/ calves as tree stumps.

I have only been in Grey Nomads a couple of months but, I have come to the conclusion that about 2% of Grey Nomads are different to the other 98%, so I will try and be gentle. Age effects everybody differently.

My brother towing me in a 1958 Ford Anglia .Popular shape.. In his 1972 Falcon GT ..
How I kept that thing from rolling is beyond me .. My shoulders dam near scrapping on bitumen ...lol
Another time.. Yes being towed ...
Our tractors gearbox had failed..
My father towed me on Fordson tractor to local workshop..
At about 40 kph the water in rear tyres starts going around with tyre ...
Can you believe how unbalanced this is at speed.. .?
The back or whole tractor was bouncing off the ground so high I could see the front of the car towing ..
Than god my Dad couldn't see me and slowed down .. For a second he thought chain had broken..
Then he said I was there in rear view mirror .. Man did I give him a telling off .. Even tho he was my father ..
I slightly applied brakes and it seemed to steady things down ..

I watched a dashcam video from Russia yesterday which had a tractor driving on the road towing a water tank. It was bouncing just as you say - water going everywhere from the trailer. Now I understand why it was bouncing. ha ha.

I do believe that I was the one to introduce it on this forum about 2 years ago, -- When the forum had a couple of trouble making Trolls that would cause plenty of disruption, Dave69, And Bluey were two that come to mind,but there were others, They would take an opposing view to almost any post any any subject, just to create disharmony, They were Loud, Boisterous, Rude, and experts at everything possible They knew everything, had done everything, were the best at everything, and If you agreed with them , Fine ! if not, well you are wrong, Fortunately they pushed the line a little to far and got Banned
So like all other forums, The 2%ers, are the Loud, Know- All, Obnoxious, Loudmouths, with the Look at me, Listen to me, attitude, !! they have been here before, and when they go , Someone Always seems to take their place, So that is what the Grey Nomads 2%er terminology comes from, -- However maybe KPMG's Terminology may be the better option
