I have a lead acid there wich is pooped at the moment does it matter having a deep cycle charging off the altenator? Thanks in advance.

No problem, except some advise that AGMs don't like the under bonnet heat, others suggest it is OK. It may vary by brand.
I have no personal experience in that.

Heat shielding and possibly some vent for air ? Some have this as std...
I run a pice of alloy plate between engine and battery with 1/2 spacer ..
Air gap allowed air between battery and shield when driving ..
This was in Triton 4wd work vehicle . Where slow in national park driving which creates
Plenty of under bonnet heat.. Didn't need to top up water in battery half as much...
