HI, I asked our local Livingstone Shire Council (Central Queensland) about the initiative of the Frazer Coast Councils. Happily, I got this reply:
COUNCIL RESOLUTION
THAT Livingstone Shire Council accept Caravanning Queenslands invitation to be the first Queensland LGA to officially participate in Community Welcomes Recreational Vehicle program.
Moved by: Mayor Ludwig
Seconded by: Deputy Mayor, Councillor Scott
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

G'day mate
I'm pleased that you got the reply that you wanted
However, you might not realise that the scheme you are espousing is run by the caravan parks, who are promoting caravan parks as the ONLY accommodation source for travellers within the town & district
The scheme is a poor copy of the RV Friendly scheme, and was rolled out in WA about 6 months ago

It only seems to relate to providing adequate short term parking (not camping) within a shire/town.

Am I being a little cynical here; To me it seems like the Livingstone Shire is not doing anything proactive here to assist Nomads. They appear to be assisting existing Caravan Parks (with signage and brochures, etc.) to get our money without actually providing any additional services. There is no mention of any either short or long term overnight stops within the Shire nor any other enticements such as attractions or other benefits to the travellers - I have read the attached several times and cannot find anything "being offered" to attract us - only a scheme to get their share of the $17 Billion dollars.

I would like to add that the caravan park in Yeppoon (beachside caravan park) is owned by the council so it's highly unlikely they will provide any free overnight parking for any RVers.
We spent 5 months there while working in Yeppoon. It is a great but basic park right on the beach about one k from the town centre. It is not cheap though. Min $30 a night and much higher at peak time.

Precisely, the following quote comes from Bill's link
Community Welcomes Recreational Vehicles campaign being launched by Caravanning Queensland, the states peak caravan and camping body, will see Livingstone Shire promoted nationwide as a welcome stop and destination that actively encourages all manner of recreational vehicles.
Is this another shire for us to boycott?

One of the requirements to participate in this program is that the Town does not provide any free parking.
The initiative appeared to be first released at Geraldton WA when council had their RV Stragic plan up for approval.

Does that mean they have to install them flamin parking meters for everyone?

Or do you mean free camping?

I'm sure he means free camping ... there are no parking meters in Yeppoon and, sadly, no free camping places either.
