Do you mean taking the Gregory Development Rd from Charters Towers to the Oasis Roadhouse and then heading north along the Kennedy Development Road?
We have gone that way a couple of times towing our 20ft van, its a sealed bitumen road the whole way, though in some spots along the Gregory Development Road the road narrows to basically a single lane. We found it an ok road, but be prepared to pull over to the side if you see a roadtrain coming towards you and its not a road I would be passing anybody while towing. There is a nice caravan park at Greenvale, the caravan park at the Oasis Roadhouse had been taken over by roadcrews when we were there and its not somewhere I would enjoy staying. There were more mining trucks along the Kennedy Development Road but the road was wider there. Consider doing a detour to see the Undara Lava Tubes if you are going that close to them.
