In the process of ordering a new van to hit the road with for an indefinite period. We are new to the world of caravans and just after peoples thoughts as to go with an oven as well as a cook top and grill or just cook top and grill inside the van? We are planning on getting a Baby Q for out side as well.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

We have just purchased a new van the first with an oven. Haven't used it yet but gives you more options. We have a portable Barbie as well.
I would say get one if you can, difficult to add later should you want.

We have an oven in our van and use it quite a lot. I don't bake cakes etc (too many nice bakeries around to bother) but use it for roasts, casseroles and things like lasagne or oven fish and chips and other easy heat in the oven meals. We hardly use our microwave, but do use our bbq a lot too.

We are a bit like Meredith, We use the oven for fish and chips and for when I am making bread or rolls if we are camped away from a town.
I use the weber for roasts and general bbq. I use our shuttle chef for casseroles and hot pots, stews and things like that.
so if you can get one then do it.

SWMBO insisted on an oven & we have used it several times over that last 15 years.
Great for our scone cook offs when staying at the beach with our Daughter & her family.
Great too for the occasional lamb roast after being on the road for a few months. Though I can do an almost as good butterflied lamb leg on the BBQ. Love that distinctive smell of the slowly cooking Lamb with mint & rosemary plus a bit of garlic.
Its main purpose is to store things like sandwich toaster/ Jaffle maker and/or the electric Pizza oven (which is used very often).
Lots of room in our van so, why not?

Love my oven in van and would miss it if not there. I use it for biscuits and baking if bakery not available. Good for heating pies for lunch instead of micro wave making pastry soggy. When not in use you can store your bread etc in it. We also have a baby q weber and that's a great asset to have as well if you don't want to heat up the van. I guess that would be the only down side that it gets pretty warm with oven on, but nice on a cold day. If you have the room go ahead, I don't think you will be sorry.
Enjoy your new van!

An oven is a great asset when the weather turns bad.
We have been travelling for over 4 years and I can guarantee you will run into your share of bad weather.

Have it all in our van and only ever used the BBQ -Q outdoors or the park facilities when staying in parks , the oven and microwave still have the seals on the racks after 10 years of ownership. If I suggested to Mrs Wombat we should use the van oven her reply would be , and rightly so, "hey remember buddy I'm also on holidays " you want an oven cooked meal go down the local club.
Are we losing the art of holidaying in the great outdoors, Micro wave ovens, Dishwashers, Washing machines, Cloths Dryers, Aircons, Convection ovens, Surround Sound Systems, .
What's happen are we really that soft or do we just have far to much disposable income.

Looks like we will upgrade to an oven...besides it'll give wifey something to clean while I'm out fishing. (hope she doesn't see that bit!)

May be we are getting "soft" in our old age, but still nice to have a few comforts.

Hi no fixed address, welcome. We live full time in our van for a year now and if I were to buy a new van I would not get an oven. 1, cost compared to the portable glass ones at most electrical stores now. 2. i would rather a washing machine. It only gets used very rarely, and the portable glass ones r self cleaning. I am sold on that fact alone. I do not care about resale value bcos I'll b dead n won't care. Regards. Rocket n strop

my wife has just put in a roast lamb to the 'van oven. We have a Baby Q BBQ which we use, but if its raining, wet or lots of flies (that just about covers all of the country lol), its easier to use the oven.
Its amazing how little gas your oven will use, but dont close the lid of the bench gas top too soon as the heat does migrate through the top of your oven/grille/gas plates top.

We don't use our oven very often but appreciate when we want it. If you are full time in van then get an oven. If we do a roast in the oven we use oven bags. Saves a lot of cleaning.

We don't use the oven but it is a good asset if it comes to reselling. It makes a good storage cupboard for tea towels.
The cook top gets used a lot tho.

Apricot chicken!!!!!
Brings back memories.
Invited to dinner on one occasion, our host got out some BBQ chicken from the supermarket, put it in a casserole dish & poured over a can of apricots and after heating ... .. Apricot Chicken.
Talk about simple approach to gourmet cooking!

You'll need to explain what an oven is ?lol we havnt been longer on the road than 6 weeks .. We have full oven and convection microwave .. We have cooked in microwave or big cast pot on fire place . If we don't. Use the BBQ .. Depends on what road kill we come across .. I guess it depends on size? Mind out of gutter .. Smaller vans need you need to compromise things for space .. Gas ovens are very efficient ..
