Hello everyone. We are Christine and Mark from the Central Coast NSW and planning retirement in the next six months. We have a 21ft Evernew van and have only had short trips so far. My biggest problem, as a mother, is feeling guilty about leaving my children and grandchildren behind when we eventually set off for months at a time. I'm sure other parents have felt the same. Any advice on overcoming this apprehension?

Welcome to the gang Christine and Mark, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Nice neck of the woods there on the Central NSW Coast. Came through that area only a few moons back on my way back south from spending many moons in Townsville with my eldest daughter and two grandkids.
Now, as a male it might be a LITTLE different but I love my family so spoke to them first up last year before hitting the playground full time. Twelve months tomorrow actually.
I make sure I have a good mobile phone on a good plan and also have a iPad and LapTop that I connect to the internent via the phone or a Wifi device. I ring my family once a week and speak to the grandchildren at same time, also my good friends are just as important so speak with them on a very regular basis. I don't ask them to ring me, I ring them, that is why my mobile plan is very important to me. I am about to meet my new grandson for the first time on Wednesday, yeh.
Another thing you could set up is Skype for those times you need to see everyone. I have it but don't use it very often now as I am happy to just speak to everyone.

Welcome from us two 2 chrisnmark I probably can't help much as all our kids have left the nest some time ago closest is 100 km then 400 and one in WA and we are in Vic closest one has our first grand child almost 1 year ago, yes this will be hard but there is lots of ways to keep in touch now days but we have another 14 months before we head off for longer than a couple of weeks at a time

Hi chrisnmark, hello and welcome. We recently sold everything bought a van n car. Yes, we miss the family but we visit them and they visit us . There is Skype, phone, the postman, email. it will be fun with grandies because soon they can come gramping with us in school holidays. Quite looking forward to that. Taking them to the beach for a few nights and they r excited they r going to have a sleepover in "our home on wheels". One day at a time . It gets easier. And everyone adjusts. Regards. G'day chrisnmark welcome to the forum, I think a lot of us go through the same as you, my family communicate by phone email and FaceTime we have four of our grandchildren living in London at the moment and plan to visit them next year.
We normally do a three or four month trip each year and it does as others say get easier to go away from the family for a holiday as long as you communicate regularly and as the rocket said grandchildren love coming for a sleep over in the van, and ours really enjoy seeing us and talking on the computer.

Thank you. I suppose because I am so used to seeing my grandchildren regularly it made me sad to think I will miss out on day to day things. I am definitely going to investigate all the technology that everyone has mentioned
