can you please tell me how you guys get accomodation up or down the coast from Brisbane during December/January school holidays. All the parks are booked a year in advance. Do you plan your accomodation well ahead or go somewhere else during holiday time? It's so frustrating that it is so hard to get into and also so expensive.

Welcome Cath. My advise would be to avoid the coast over the Christmas holidays. Go inland and enjoy the country roads, the beautiful scenery and camp beside picturesque rivers, lakes and streams etc. I have nothing to do with coastal areas over any school holidays, too congested, too expensive and too noisy.

It's quite simple - don't stay on the coast, stay just inland such as Howard/Maryborough for Hervey Bay, Cooroy for Noosa, Murwillumbah for Coolangatta, Bangalow for Byron Bay, Macksville for Nambucca, Wauchope for Port Macquarie etc etc - these places generally are not as busy.
If you go further inland it gets hotter whereas if you stay 'near' the coast it's only a short drive to see the salt water. Prices just inland are much less than on the coast and food/supplies are also cheaper.
More than one way to skin a cat.

ankle-biters are ok , but not when they have heaps of time to run wild.
Yep I stay home , during their hols , then there's no clashes.
We don't even want to be on the road during school holidays, or public holidays.
We are willing to look after grandkids during the holidays, provided that they are delivered to us.

Wauchope hasn't got it's own van park but the show grounds are available. Most Nomads book into show grounds over school holds as they don't seem to price gouge like the regular parks seem to do. Our show ground fills up with nomads when the school hols start. The SG are good if you aren't trying to entertain kids they do serve as a good tourist base camp for solo or couples

Thanks so much for replies. Will have a look at inland places. Can anyone recommend a nice quiet park nearest Noosa. We have 20ft with shower toilet so don't mind older ablutions or basic facilities but don't like noisy groups and people with loud music
some very pleasant places to stay and not too far from where you want to be. just type Noosa into the search box.

During any school holidays, we go inland. Once school holidays ends and the caravan park prices go down, we head back to the coast. No screaming kids and more room to move around the park. At the moment we are at Victor Harbor, we got a permanent rate as we here for 12 months. So if the caravan prices go up or down during peak season we stay on this rate. Did the same thing in Cairns.

There is one in Wauchope - Timbertown Caravan and Cabin Park - 4 km out of the town. The showground is OK except if they're playing there when the facilities get a bit overused.
