Hello Gordon
The mobile phone needs to have a password entered to connect the wifi from the phone to the laptop.
This can be tricky .
A bit like pairing for Bluetooth.
You need to get the password and enter it in the phone and in the laptop.
Trick is to get the correct password.
I have had a look at your phone manual and it does not cover this in detail.
When you are going true a town just stop at the Telstra or Optus shop they will help you with that for sure
Not much help tonight for you but maybe it can be fixed tomorrow
