We are on the last leg of our trip and are heading home tomorrow, my husband & I are amazed at how many people disregard the 'rules' at caravan parks. We're currently at Woodgate Beach Caravan Park, we love it here and this is our 4th time here and yes, we know it's school holidays but the amount of children riding bikes in the park on the road with no helmet, shoes or supervision is incredible plus as the rules state, no riding of bikes etc. is allowed in the park. Not only here but at the other parks as well, plus the rules regarding dogs, not everyone picks up after them or keeps them on a leash, our young border collie was attached by an unrestrained dog in the park, luckily she didn't get hurt. Why have rules when nobody polices it??

Unfortunately it is not just Caravan Parks, We now have a generation of people who think rules are for everyone but them

Agree .. But keep in mind most these. Rulz wasn't heard of back in our day ...
Have two views .. One to abide by safety as we all should do..
The other is having fun .. Careful we don't grow to be grumpy old codgers ...
The world has become too big brother on the other hand..
I find being grand parents we teach our grandchildren these things their parents can't do..
Not in the same way... What do we want children inside playing on their iPads ?

And if you complained to the Park Management they probably wouldn't do anything about it & YOU wouldn't be very popular for reporting offences. Why do parks have rules, not many folk adhere to them & no-one enforces them?

I agree with you as kids cannot ride bikes most times safely due to parents being scared they will either get run over, taken by some Sicko or other imaginary danger. We as older people have to remember what it was like when we were that age. To stay young is to be tolerant of others.

We learn't early that rules and school holidays just go out the window in CP's. My favorite is "No ball games in park" so what do I get, 4 teens playing AFL across the tops of our vans, when I complained to the manager, his reply was "well it is school holidays, what do you expect" when I reminded him of their obligations if my van or hatches got damaged, he laughed and walked away ! next we had half a footy team join in including dads, so I bailed out and left the mongrels to it.
And as for the regular reply of we were all young once, yes we were, but most of us grew up being taught to respect other people and their property or else ! I traveled with our 4 children camping years ago, they didn't hassle people and we took responsibility for them, unlike most of this current generation.
But I must say there are still the odd few parents out there that do care what their kids do.

No it isn't, that statement is a total generalisation and has nothing to do with the sad incident that you refer to. It was the actions of the individuals that were the cause of the incident, nothing to do with other peoples attitudes.

Bob, I think what Landy was alluding to was that youths/children being 'allowed' to 'just enjoy themselves' without constraint - eg carelessly riding bikes around a van park without consideration of the potential danger to others = carelessly riding bikes around a car park/street without consideration of the potential danger to others - is an attitude that is too prevalent.
99% of the time, it is good to just 'let them enjoy themselves - they're only kids'. However, there must be some constraint/boundaries applied to ensure these "kids", while 'just having fun' are continually aware that their actions have a potential to cause harm/damage to others and/or their property ... and in Carrum Downs - LIFE.
Riding bicycles around van parks, riding mini-bikes around camping grounds, riding 'monkey' bikes around the street/car parks all are prone to the potential to cause damage or harm - and even death - to others.
Young people do not generally consider their actions are going to have a potential for harm ... they are just having fun and enjoying the exuberance of youth.
It is the role, and responsibility, of their caring adults to instil and instruct the attitude to have consideration of others and exercise care whilst in the pursuit of that 'fun'.
I think Landy's comment does have relevance to the post.

Bikes careering around on one side of the van park and parents in their van on the other side of the van park
No line of sight, not within hearing, and kids riding and enjoying themselves and not noticing (or even considering) the 'foot traffic' or worse still, the motor vehicle negotiating to their site.

Teaching them right and wrong.. To other who may be paranoid or have anxiety issues ? Sheesh. How are kids going to learn .. I'm not talking about 16 or older who should know better .. Chances are the family of those older kids on monkey bikes went camping with family ? There upbringing maybe different .. To some the family structure just isn't there .. Too much nanny state as it is..

We had problems with kids running between our car and caravan.
Mum , dad and grandparents sitting outside their rented motorhome letting the kids run riot.
Didn't blame the kids. If they are taught to respect other people's property this wouldn't happen.
Kids were fine when l asked them not too. Plus if one of them had run over our dog (tied up to caravan) and he had bitten them. Said parents would blame the dog.
Kids were riding their bikes round the park and having a ball. There were also kids fishing and out in kayaks with parents.
Better they be doing this than inside on iPads/ iPhones.

Was in Kunnunara a few months ago and had to sign a 2 page list of rules regarding our dog. I commented at the time with "So, if the dog farts we can be told to leave?". During our stay kids were allowed to run a muck. 2 kids ran under our awning tipping over our table & chairs, the dog reacted because they were in our space and barked, then the gardener said "you must keep that dog quiet". Rules for dogs but not for kids apparently, we left the next day!.

Hi Troopy, unfortunately most of the parents weren't supervising, and were doing the same thing, ie. riding around with no helmet, shoes etc. and with a general disregard for safety. My husband almost got boled over with one. There was one little fellow only about 18mths old on a little dinky, very hard to see and no parent in sight

Sorry for the delay in coming back to this post. Troopy I see unlicensed kids on unregistered mini bikes riding on roads , footpaths, and in public parks ( on a regular basis ), with there parents knowledge and often with their parents watching . In my opinion parents need to start taking responsibility for what there kids are doing instead of encouraging them to break our laws. I know its hard i had kids of my own, but again in my opinion if you do not know were your 16 year old is you should, especially when they have photos of themselves on their on their face book page on an unregistered mini bike.
