Camped here beside us is a x cmca member with whom I've had a good chat.
He held a position in this organisation, serving on commities, organising functions etc.
This person was a motor home owner, who resigned his position, canceled his membership & left; then bought a caravan.
WHY? The despise directed at caravaners was no less than pure hatred , to the point where he could no longer condone their actions.
So there you have it, straight from a former member.

Makes you wonder whether its a hate for the CMCA or the ideology , certainly CMCA was a Motorhome community but I understand the caravans are welcome now so why would this come forth , or is just a disgruntled ex employee.

Hi there everybody has there own reasons for either 1/ buying a caravan and towing all there twilight years 2/ having spent the last 35 yrs towing 40ft trailers behind them all night every night and therefore decided not to tow and also joined the CMCA mainly for the benifits unbeknowen that there is an amount of animosity. Ill camp next to you and ill share a coldy and a meal and talk with you. SO what the hell we all have our own reasons for for our decisions OH ps i also wave as a truckie always does cheers
Peter if you are an active member of CMCA, i am sure you have followed the ''push'' To get more Caravanners to also join as associate members, as the CMCA has a new regime of members on the board, In this push the rules effecting associate members were lessoned to a degree allowing much more wide and varied participation in all area's [ except voting rights ] which is the reason i have not and will not join a club that discriminates, because of chosen type of rig ??
The debates that followed this push to allow caravanners more rights and freedom to have more participation in the club was met from some very clear and at times very rude and ignorant behaviour, by many of the Old School CMCA members, who did not want caravanners in their club at all, ?? I think maybe because of the fear that if Vanners did join the club in large numbers, even though the increase to membership fund would be huge and beneficial, the numbers may increase to a level that associate members would have a more powerful voice, both in numbers and $$$$ and this would lead to '' EQUAL RIGHTS '' and there is probably a degree of fact in that, !! as there would be around 4 -5 times more vanners out there than motorhomes, ?
The amount of Venom, [ from both sides ] that was displayed not only on the CMCA page but also on a range of other forums that was involved in the discussion of changing the rules and giving more rights to associate members clearly showed that Although it would be very beneficial to all that enjoy this wonderful lifestyle, and would greatly increase the Power of CMCA, and ACA to battle the Caravan Parks Associations fight against us, It was very clear that Unity would be a very rocky road, unless there was '' equal rights' and the old school CMCA members thought outside the square ??
The Issue of '' Fully Self Contained '' was a predominant point of argument put forward in these heated forum debates by many of the CMCA members, to the degree that it was clearly a planned form of attack, to use against caravanners which in the past many of them were not fully self contained, / However in the past many Motorhomes were also NOT fully self contained, Many vans now are also equipped with grey water holding tanks and many more are also installing them, So that may be one orchestrated and planned plan of attack that some motorhomers will no longer be able to use,
In short i wrote this little piece to clear the point of view that Animosity between SOME members of CMCA towards Caravanners is very active indeed, ? If in doubt go to the forums and read the posts, -- Never the twain shall meet --

The real problem is this sort of third hand drivel.
Is this a caravan forum or a motorhome forum?
The answer is neither and this rubbish (and those who seek to spread it) should not be allowed here, in my view, because it IS the problem.

When I was a member of CMCA, there were frequent bun fights on their forum about the way the group was run and criticising of the CMCA board (those for and against). It got so bad that the board closed the forum down. Some members went to other forums and I think one even formed their own independent forum for motorhome owners.

Associate members don't get to vote because they are not eligible to be full members of a club formed for the benefit of those who own a Campervan or a Motorhome. Pretty well end of story. Ungratefull people who joined for the member benefits get all of those benefits and should acknowedge that CMCA has allowed them access to those benefits and cut the whinging.
Regards cold shoulders from fellow travellers - I get the same response from fellow travellers whether I am out in either the MH or the Van; invariably a friendly hello and maybe a chat. Maybe the Van Draggers who whinge about the CMCA could change their unfriendly attitudes and see what happens when they don't treat others on the basis of what they travel in.

I am just pointing out that this subject regards caravans is not new and a very thorny issue and some of the forum bunfights were about caravan club membership and for awhile there it was a very unhappy club, some even resigning from the board over their infighting on a number of issues, this among them. I am glad they have finally got around to looking at starting their forum again I hope they have better luck this time round, I imagine it will be strictly monitored to ensure the same thing does not happen again.
I think the main thing is that the club was started primarily for motorhomes and campervans. There are plenty of other clubs around for caravans and camper trailers and some allow mixed membership of all types of RV, so there are plenty of options around. In the past I have belonged to caravan clubs that were for specific types of caravans or camper trailers, if you didn't have that type of RV (eg; sold yours) then you had to leave the club despite making many friends over the years (I still have friends from those same clubs I keep in social contact with). I have been in that situation myself. There are plenty of options around including generic clubs with full membership rights..
What I am saying is the CMCA has the right to maintain their basic membership charter which ever way they choose to do it hardly a new thing, many clubs do the same. My BIL has been a member of the CMCA for a very long time and has never been to a rally, he joined because of the insurance benefits (he has a converted bus) and the magazine which many enjoy.
Are you a board member at CMCA Peter? I know you have been a member for a very long time so would have seen a lot of club history over time as well.
Vic - Ex CMCA Member W72288 (ps; I left the club as I no longer qualified for membership after I sold my campervan, not for any personal reasons).

This isn't really true but there are chapters with that opinion.
The first thing you should have been asked is: "Are you a paid up member of the CMCA?"
I gather you were not, so that would have been the end of it.
Chapter meetings are usually an area booked for the occasion. Insurance rules forbid the inclusion of none CMCA members.
Some chapter presidents and or the meet and greet person may not be the best PR person one could ever meet but that's just a fact of life.
Nowadays some retail counter jumpers can be equally as rude and unsociable, it's one of life's ongoing changes.

No I am not a board member.
The CMCA is the largest and most successful RV club in Australia. It is that because it has provided value for its campervan and motor homing members (and the RV community at large, something that it has never been obliged to do) over the years.
In the next few years I expect there will be many new initiatives for the Members too. Watch this space.
Anyone can be a member, but membership is not 'compulsory' and those who don't like some aspects of how it is run are free to join one of the other many choices available to them.
