Absolute bugger trying to read upside down, so I still have no idea what it's all about. Lol

Presume this is about the fact that VW has fitted soft ware that gives false info on pollution output when tested. There is a probability that 5 million vehicles could be recalled and with fines etc many billions of dollars will be needed. Share price is in freefall.

Gday...
A somewhat long read, but it is fairly expansive and informative of how the "issue" for VW arose.
The unknown outcome is whether any other manufacturers have been 'fudging' their figures as well. The ramifications could be quite disruptive, in the least. to those of us who drive modern CRD diesels.

its now 11 million vehicles world wide , possible 18 billion dollars , and the reproductions of it may effect other diesel engines , the way you see some filthy diesels on the roads makes you wonder.

Had lunch with a friend today whose diesel tug was blowing lots black smoke. He was a little embarrassed by it. When a bloke in a Bunnings car-park threatened to dob him in to the EPA if he didn't get it fixed he had the engine re-mapped and it's now OK. He suspects that his tug (not a VW) is one of many that have got the same issue as the VWs. Maybe more than VW fudging figures as noted above.

Basic checks is intake filter.. It its remotely restricted chances are engine with run rich and smoke.. Most modern TURBO diesels don't smoke and have heaps air / oxygen to burn fuel .. If turbo engines smoke too much ? Blue .. Chances are engine is way warn or turbo seals are on there way out... Black smoke is dirty injectors , inlet filter, too much fuel or retarded injector timing ?
from what I understand VW don't have system working 100% of the time ..
