Hi all. I am about to have another go at enjoying the wide open spaces with my Mum and my two adorable Mutts.  We have had a 12 month set back to our plans due to some major health issues for Mum who is now thankfully on the mend. In November last year we set off in our new van from home near Toowoomba in Queensland and travelled to family in Adelaide for one month. this was extended to 3 months due to Mum's health. 

Now we are planning to go north to Townsville via the inland route, Roma, Emerald & Charters Towers in mid November. We would love to hear from anyone going that way who might like to have a tag along.  As I am still very new to towing etc it would be great to have some company.

I have just returned south after spending just over 4 months in Townsville as I do each year. I did up and down via the coast roads this year but have done inland twice in the past. Happier up the coast really and I tell you that for free.

"dunnie" is in memory of my late hubby. I am about to commence the dream we never got to do.

I did think to go via the coast but as I am still not completely confident with heeps of traffic I thought the inland would be better. I still have time to change my mind.

Yep, as I said, a good reason.  I too am doing what my late wife and I talked about. I'm sure she is with me though.

Keep an eye out for all the animals that can be on the roads inland, including the ones behind steering wheels   Who said that  probably KFC   Nope, he would have gone "Off Topic".

I like the Hume, Pacific and Bruce highways due to heaps of room (Most) of the journey. You can encounter silly old moos and even crazier Emus in land not to mention the Roos. That said, there is some nice scenery to be seen though.

Edit......oops, forgot to mention Road Trains, yep usually plenty of them. If you have UHF, keep it on channel 40 and you can usually hear them approaching as the pilots yet you know. If you hear "one in the shoot"  or similar,  keep an eye out.  

 Hi Dunnie a big warm welcome to the forum, we have travelled to North QLD several times and usually travel up from NSW on the inland road as there are less hills and with te exception of peak times when everybody from Victoria deserts the state and heads north, I remember one day when we were camped up beside the highway counting 218 vans going north in half an hour and that continued for most of the day, the other thing is the road trains there are heaps of them so be aware and if you have a CB keep an ear on channel 40. We usually come home down the coast as that provides a good variety of scenery hope you have a very pleasant and safe trip
