If you are a friend of mine on facebook I have closed my account. Reason being that someone hacked my details and loaded porn all over the groups I had joined and enjoyed.
I recall hovering my mouse over something odd that must have set the porn train in motion.
My sincere apologies to all and I hope you will forgive my "mistake"

I reckon FB is a wonderful medium to keep in touch with family and friends, BUT care is needed.

Agree on both points. My wife uses FB all the time to keep in touch with family and friends. Works good for her. But somehow I used to get all the weirdos about the place wanting to be my friend and annoying me. I've finally got a rather anonymous name that I've yet to receive crap. That works good for me to play games. It also works to log onto lots of places (discussion places like this one) that require an FB account.

FB is like anything on internet ..best log off when finished..
I refuse to let technology get in the way. use it to enhance life..
I remember oldies saying people with mobile phones will go broke etc...
Keep your computer up on security... We lock our front door these days ..
Why leave our PC open... You have to remember FB is an open media..

We are lucky we grew up in a world without facebook, however with facebook I have reconnected with so many of those people I grew up with. Love it, but as has been said keep an eye on things
The main thing is to watch for friends requests from people already on your friends list or requests from total strangers

Bad luck Phil, guess in this day and age these things can happen, can understand your being upset about it.

It is a fairly simple 'fix' Phil, go into your FB Settings - Apps and look for any app that you haven't authorised and delete it. Problem gone.

Its not having your account hacked
If someone posts filth to your FB page don't click on it just delete it
If you click on it most likely it will be posted by yourself to all your friends and groups
without your knowledge

Noted Phil, hope the suggestion by Delta18 fixes the problem. You should be able to re-activate your account just by logging on they don't delete it immediately......

Same with any online service, hey?
FB is a good way to keep family and friends appraised (and jealous) of your travels. But, I fastidiously avoid the junk posts that some "friends" post, particularly those which try to bully you into repeating some garbage and if you don't then the implication is that you're not a nice person.
I use FB merely for chatting with friends/family, linking to relevant stuff on the web such as news items, jokes and what we're up to.
I'd imagine that we'd be using a bit when we get into the Grey Nomading thing.
It's a good way of creating a travelogue, I think.

Accounts don't get "hacked", you have to invite them in by clicking on the porn in the first place. 🙈

I actually clicked on "get an ipad for free" had to log in to prove I was over 18. Then the spam hit the fan. I certainly didnt invite them. I didnt click on porn Tom, its not my style.
BTW Im back now after some serious modifications to my security.

"get an ipad for free"
I have now managed to get rid of all the spam that created.
they are phishing for contact details so they can bombard you. I think they must be paid per article they send so they needs lots of contacts
I clicked on one like that on another forum that I respected and much the same thing happened, I was prepared that time though.
don't click on any of them any more
glad you got it back under control
hope you are well mate

Remember the "good old days" of windows 95 and 98 and in Internet Explorer --- IF you passed your mouse pointer across an icon it opened - and opened anything to boot, some time 20 or 30 new pages of crap.
I nearly sh** myself the other day as it happened in IE11. Haven't seen it for years.
PS don't need advice of use another browser thanks all.
