Day trip back to tassie on the 6th of sept. needed breakfast What no toast, no serial, just muffins and crap. Lunch came What $22.00 a plate? for what?crap again. I hope night trips serve a better meal. Also movies now charge to watch. what a bloody ripe off.

I see the Spirit of Tasmania is still living up to it's name, taking a trip on that ship is enough to sink your Spirits.

Spare a thought for me! They want $3700. one way, with 2 people and a cabin overnight a return trip TOTAL COST is,
Wait for it!!!! $9600. Queries to Infrastructure Minister Mr. Rene Hidding has fallen in deaf ears with no response at all. I forwarded a submission to his office one month ago re this fare and others likely to be caught out by Spirit of Tasmania Policy.

and the new Tasmanian Govt when it took over said they would drop the ship fares. They need a brave pollie (none in State or Federal at the moment) who will say to get Tassie up and running financially, we need to provide good service and seriously reduce the fares (even by half) to encourage tourism). Currently Tassie needs too big a share of the countries GST collection and regular handouts from Canberra to survive. Its like sit down money - the Tasmania Govt has become too dependant on handouts

If you were privy to the cost of operating a ship you would understand the charges but this is no excuse for crap food. The Tas Govt heavily subsidises the ships but there has to be a limit on how much they can do.

We travelled on the ferry end of last month. The $34 million re-fit of the 2 ships was a total waste of money, in my opinion. We always book a cabin, but many passengers in recliners slept on the floor saying the seats were too uncomfortable. Most of the lounge chairs are horrendously uncomfortable (hint: sit in the tub chairs if you have a bad back!) The cinema, which used to be free, will now cost you $13.50! The buffet is $22 per plate.
TT line is trying to promote the trip as a luxury cruise..it's a 10 hour ferry ride for goodness sake! We don't need bells and whistles, just a value for money way of getting to and from the island!

Did a day sailing to Tassie & a night return in early March this year. The day sailing was so bl**dy boring. We had ''ocean recliners'', they were absolutely useless. Went to recline mine back & I was left holding just the handle. The whole ship was looking very tired & tatty. The wait to board was like watching grass grow! Yes I know they've been upgraded recently, they were long overdue for one! Wouldn't bother again though.

We have just returned to Tassie after 3 months on the northern island.
In July we had a 2 berths in an inside cabin for a night sailing, a dog in a kennel, and a 33 ft (10M) motor home.
Last Sunday (13 Sept.) we had a daylight sailing from Melbourne to Devonport, ocean chairs, dog and same MH.
With all the available discounts (off peak, 1 night time sailing and 1 daytime sailing, seniors discount etc.) our costs were $950 (approx).
No one makes you patronize the cafeteria or the theater. We have a meal before we board and breakfast after we get off.
Yes the daylight trip is boring but get yourself a novel to read.
In terms of distance and time taken, the Spirits are far cheaper than the Sorrento/ Queenscliff ferry across the bay.
My practice, and what I advise everyone to do, is to book direct with the TT Line and always ask about what discounts you can get. They do not try to up-sell you as so many travel agents do.
