Looks like a Power Supply for something, Sat Box or tv. Can you put a multimeter on the centre hole & outside? Will probably read battery voltage.

Looks like the DC connector that powers my TV set. Same connector that would power the other appliances mentioned above. Do you have a multi meter to see what comes out of it?

The plug is a standard 2.1 or 2.5mm DC plug used to power all sorts of low voltage products as mentioned above. They are most frequently connected to 12V but depending on the item it was meant to power, it could be lower than 12V.
If you find it is 12V, I suggest you leave it there. You will find a use for it. The centre pin is usually +, but there are some exceptions. Check appliance and plug.
finally it appears to be working thanks to all re picture sizing
found this in the corner cupboard wires just disappear into the wall ?so any guesses what it is would be good looks like connected to 12 v ?
looks like there is a coax in there as well.
