Hi folks
My wife and I are looking at becoming grey nomads. I'm still working so trips around Australia will be some time off, yet.
We're looking at both a caravan and a vehicle with which to tow it. World of Caravans have so many. Spoilt for choice at that particular outlet.
Towing vehicle short list is the soon to be superseded Prado, Pajero and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.
Love to hear from everyone regards these vehicles.
My wife and I live in south Eastern Victoria. Gippsland region. So for us it's s relatively short hop to Lakes Entrance and Phillip Island to name two popular holiday resorts.
The idea of taking off and not coming back for months at a time is a bit daunting, actually. So too is the idea of spending upwards of $100,000 on a new car and van and all the bits and pieces to make it a complete ensemble.
Hopefully we'll get some really useful info and guidance here.
Thanks
Martin

G'day Martin welcome to the forum there are a significant number of very knowledgable people who are also members here and if you ask a question you can rest assured you will get several answers to help you decide.
With regard to the purchase of a tow vehicle you will get many varied responses from members as we all believe we have the best vehicle to tow our van, so what I guess I am saying its a personal choice just make sure that the vehicle is capable of towing the van you purchase with a reasonable margin
For safety.
My tug is a dual fuel Pajero exceed and I think it's great because it tows my 21 foot van with ease, it's the most comfortable car I have driven and is great to drive, the downside is that the petrol version is a bit thirsty when towing so I have fitted LPG which improves the economy but all new Pajero's are Diesel and they are quite economical.

Thanks Aussie.
Regards the Pajero a mate has the base model, a 2013 diesel. Doesn't tow much with it, though. Local dealer has the base model and the Exceed, both diesels, new. Going to take the Exceed for a test drive on Friday, I think.
We've test drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo diesel and a Toyota Prado diesel (the last of the 3l models). Both go OK, but no van on the back, of course. I have friends who tow big boats and other loads with their Prados and Jeeps. And they seem happy enough with them.
I think that what it will get down to is cost and ride comfort.

Just a quick question. How do I list new posts for threads that I'm participating in. eg. this one? And for new posts across the board?
I must be having one of those "man looks" that my wife reckons I specialise in as I can't seem to find the required info on it.
Thanks.

Doug, I'm looking for how to read NEW messages since I've posted, or replies to mine, or new messages in threads to which I'm subscribed.
I just got an email alerting me to your post. When I clicked on the link it took me to the first post, not the newest unread post. I must be doing something wrong.
No matter, there's a HEAP of stuff here that I have to plough through, first, though...
