The Department of Fire & Emergency Services (DFES) is committed to reducing the number of false fire alarms attended to each year. A false fire alarm is when DFES attends a premises in response to an alarm where there is no fire.
In the 2014-15 financial year, fire-fighters responded to 9,839 false fire alarm activations, which equates to approximately 27 false fire alarm attendances each day.
DFES will charge a fee of $750 per false fire alarm attendance.
will apply after the third false fire alarm attendance to a premises in a financial year. DFES will issue an invoice upon the fourth (4th) false fire alarm attendance and every false fire alarm attendance thereafter.
Fair enough I reckon, I believe W.A. is the last State to introduce this charge,
15 years ago it cost that much to roll ONE fire tender to a Bush Fire.
Just imagine what it costs to turn out a full Brigade of 4 light tankers, two heavy tankers , a Comms Bus and associated back up equipment such as air support, Police, SES, all this plus relief teams to a week long fire !!! $$$$$$$$$$

GEEZ I'm glad they provided a definition - I would never have understood what a 'false fire alarm' was otherwise

Gday...
WA DFES seem to be determined to prove they are not serious about genuinely stopping false alarms I think
One false alarm - grin and bear it. Second false alarm for the same premises - in with the 'attendance fee'.
Cheers - John

Reckon you could be right there, Rockylizard,
It costs so much to attend a false alarm, I say hit them first time with a full call-out Bill,
there is a University who have an annual bill which has already reached $ 26.000 and they still have false alarms !!
maybe if they banned smoking or cooking classes in the buildings, they might reduce their account.

After 21 years with WA Fire & Rescue their is a big difference between "false alarm" & "justifiable false alarm"
Like a dollar for every-time I turned out to a DBA at the local hospital, would certainly boost my retirement funds.

SWMBO accidentally triggered a fire alarm in an apartment we were staying at near the Story Bridge in Brissy.
Manager and receptionist at door even though I rang and said no fire etc etc, PLUS you could hear the Firies coming about 3km away.
A stern warning next time $1300 call out fee, this was about 2010.
So be it.

Hells Bells, $ 1300 that's a bit stiff, tell SWMBO come to W.A. she will get three goes here before they charge her,
And then it will only cost her half of what she would have payed in Brissy.
