Bugga! Not the number plate thing again? Yep. But a little different.
I have discovered the not so nice thing of my number plate being higher than said rule. Bugga again.
I have tought about putting a small tool box on the back of the van next to the spare wheel, fix the number plate to that creating a legal view from any direction. Problem is, locating the light cable so I can tap into it and put another light above the new location. I don't want to remove the old plate area as there will be a dreaded hole there. I have thought of putting a "Bugga" plate I have seen there instead, just to fill the space.
I have timber frame with Aluminium cladding on top so would find it difficult to run cable down inside back wall.
Anyone have suggestions please.
I really think this is the dealers problem so might contact him and see what is said, I think I know though.
Keep Safe out there.

Doug you may be able to get access by removing tail light and tapping into the tail light wire. with the tail light removed you may be able to run wire through cavity and exit at correct position.
cheers

I would be pursuing the maker on this one first but think they will try to get out of any responsibility also .
Sharke's idea has merit if I may add to his suggestion perhaps a piece of fence wire may be able to be pushed down inside the skin to a lower spot if you don't need to go too far, drill a hole where the wire is making a noise poke it through and tape a string to it pull it back up then use it to pull the new wire ( or maybe the original wire ) through the new lower hole. Easy peasy dougy wougy

Doug I would suggest running a new wire from the trailer plug of the van down through the chassis rail to the rear then up to your new light. That way you can leave the original No. plate light as is with no need for extra holes

Makes sense Alan, I will speak to a sparkie if I go down the track of doing it myself. I still have to ring the dealer.

Doug ..
I have the same problem as you mate ..
Have been in touch with my manufacturers and although the problem is of national interest, I'm advised that only one (1) traveller has been addressed to rectify the problem.
I will leave the status quo for now ..

Refer the issue to the selling dealer (by phone and confirm in writing) if they do not rectify the issue (the van is defective and should not have been registered) refer it to the state DFT.
Do not stuff around.

Had our license plate fixed today, cost $100. Moved it from the drivers side of the van to the other side, left the old light where it was and installed a new one over the plate. Much cheaper than driving it to Melbourne about 500 kms.

I have been in contact with dealer and they will cover cost.
I have no complaints about their after sales service, they have been great all the way really.

Why was it not done to the regulations in the first place and how was registered ????
The manufacturers are aware of the regulations.
More people need to complain then they may get the message."build the vans to comply"
It's great they are going to accept their responsibilities.....some are trying to get out of it !!!!!!! they need to be named and shamed.
BTW, do not forget the 45 degree angle for the viewing of the plate.....no to be obstructed by wheels or boxes etc.
