Just wondering if many of you stay up in Queensland over the hot summer, while the wet season is on and the tropical storms are happening.
Not something I would do, but who is game??

Nope, not me, no way.
I hate wind and rain, got caught last year in the out of season (just) cyclone Ita, thank goodness she was a little force of nature but enough for me. Not only that, I don't cope well in humidity.
Winter in QLD, well here in down town Townsville is just peeeeerfect.

You are probably correct there Wizard. I was going to head there a few weeks ago and work my way back to Townsville but Medical appointments took over that plan and I have put that idea on the back burner for next year now, so I don't have to rush things.
I have decided to leave down town Townsville in a couple of weeks to avoid being on the road during school holidays. I used to love School Holidays and Public Holidays but now, they get in the way, bugga.
Sorry Marj to wander off topic, not like me at all

That's ok Doug, just trying to get a feeling from the travellers more so than the permanents as they stay put. Here in Sapphire the town empties out from now onwards, all the tourists go and lots of the claim owners head back to their permanent homes down south, a lot from NSW and Vic.
Some have no choice and stay on their claims, say the temps can get up to between 40 and 50 degrees. I don't think I could handle that. I know I could not handle it. Most of the claim holders are gone by October.

We arrived in Cairns in Oct 2011, planned to stay there for a few months got a job in Coles and end up staying at Lake Placid tourist park for 30 months. Went through 2 wet seasons, no cyclones. It was humid and lots of rain but we are got used to the weather. It was great to see everything so green, waterfalls flowing fast and less tourists. Altogether we visited over 20 waterfalls in Cairns, tablelands and the nearby areas. Cant wait to go back.

I have been to Cairns quite a bit once in summer in the early seventies and it was quite uncomfortable but late autumn, winter and early spring brilliant. Haven't been to the tablelands in summer but its probably great being a temperate climate.

We'd prefer everyone to stay up there in QLD all year round. It's great back here in VIC, no-one around wherever we go. Love it!
So glad that we did most of QLD back in the 70's & 80's. There wasn't too many around back then.

It's interesting to see the different opinions. I don't think I could manage without airconditioning, camping out would be so hard with that sort of heat.

Its great from now on as all you southerners leave us alone and we can book into places without booking in advance.
I prefer to be here in Queensland than down in the cold.
Its what you get aclimatised to really. "how many stay in the southern iceberg states" for winter. I sure as ever won't do that again.
