We are looking for advice on the suitability of the road from Towoomba to Rockhampton via Yarraman for a caravan.
My wife and I are travelling from Sydney to Airlie Beach and thought we would visit Yarraman on the way. We then intend heading north through to Rockhampton. After looking at the road on Google Maps it doesn't look very straight.
Has anyone had any experience travelling this route towing a caravan?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes the road though Yarraman is sealed and is quite enjoyable drive though to Rockhampton.
There is some really good low cost camps, reasonably price fuel, with good butchers and food stores along the way.
Amazingly there has been no reported stage coach ups or highway man working that area since 18 hundreds.
Well go and have a look, there is lots to be seen, take your time, enjoy.
Hope this helps. Ralph.

Hi Don, Travelling that way in the morning on our way to Inskip Point near Rainbow Beach. We have a daughter near Kilkivan and tow our van up there quite often. The Cooyar Range is between Cooyar and Yarraman but is no problem, just letting you know it is there. Nice drive so have fun.

Good free camp at Dululu , When you leave Dululu for Rockhampton take the Gracemere road into Rocky not the Mt Morgan road .

Hey Brickies . What's wrong with th Mt Morgan Rd.
Useless story about th Mt Morgan Rd . When I first started driving semi's
and went up Mt M , they Had th guide posts in th Middle of th road , as truckies
swerved out to get around a corner , we would knock a post over. The council
came up next day & replaced all the posts that had been knocked over.
Yep . Do th Gracemere.

If you follow "Australias Country Way" You will get a great drive. Starts around Tamworth, finishes at Rockhampton. Various different highways, but if you google it, you will get the information, or pick up a brochure at an Info Centre. We covered much of the Qld component up to 6 months ago - with a van. No issues. Plenty of freedom camps.

We had the best counter lunch ever at the old yellow pub in Yarraman and there is caravan parking just down across the road, and public toilets nearby. Also free camps at nearly every small town.

I have been up and down both the range and the razorback several times with my 25ft van and not a hint of trouble. Both roads are good and easy to navigate. I am currently staying in Mount Morgan Motel and Van Park which is good value for money.
