Hi Fred, if the towing capacity of the Amarok is within the weight limits of your van then I think it would tow your van without any problems....even uphill. But like every sensible/sane driver here knows, you only take you van where you know you are comfortable and capable of doing so safely. If I could afford an Amarok I would love one. Happy travels mate.

This may be a bit late but I tow with an Amarok.
I have a Trendline with the 8 speed auto. It is wonderful. I tow a 2.2 ton tare weight, 22foot Supreme Exeutive.
I have just returned from 6.4k km tour to NSW and QLD over winter and it never missed a beat. Warrumbungles (spell?) never phased it nor any of the other hills we did. Fuel consumption was good. I used cruise most of the time. On the hills I rode the accellerator to give it a bit of a break on only once or twice did it drop to 5th gear (6th is direct). We cruised on abut 95km/h but when asked to go faster is was more than happy.
