We just received conformation from Jayco that they are now fitting fully certified, self containment 85lt grey water tanks. On the Outback Journey17.55 @ $530.00
Our order has been amended will be fitted on the assembly line.

Well done - whether it's a fitted or portable grey water tank, it is like joining the modern world
I see too many vans that leave dirty / soapy / whatever spolts on the ground after they move off - even from car parks etc
The Freedom Camping Australia survey on the go right now shows that 80% of all vans [as surveyed over the past 12 months] have both shower & toilet, with 40% of all vans now having either a fixed or portable grey water tank
Nice to join the "club" :)

I fitted one to Rob & Sally Grahams Jayco a couple of months ago , was a struggle to get somewhere to mount but we did it ,only needs a slight redesign.

How are they going to create an allowance for the extra weight as potentially you could have an extra 85 kg on board and with the tight tare weight limits which does not allow for gas bottles or water in your fresh water tanks you may have to leave the wife at home or are they just going to change the compliance plate.

I don't think TARE would be an issue as TARE is taken with ALL water tanks empty, including HWS ... and of course no gas (or bottles), or awning, or heaps of other stuff that is quite probably attached, affixed, installed on/in the van upon, or just before, delivery.
Theoretically, there would be limited affect on ATM - given that the 'fresh' water tanks would be filled - but the 'grey' water tank empty. Again, theoretically, the 'grey' tank would only gain weight as the water was transferred from the 'fresh' tank/s - with a consequent reduction of weight in the 'fresh' water tank.
Obviously, should one be camped for a period and fill the 'grey' water tank - eg 85ltrs - and the 'fresh' water tanks are refilled BEFORE the grey water can be evacuated, then there would be some additional weight - until the 'grey' water was evacuated.
A not insurmountable problem one would assume ... so the fitting of a 'grey' water tank should have minimum impact on the TARE and ATM of the van. That said, a sensible vanner would need to be aware of the potential of such impacts and be cautious in the way they 'use' the 'allowed weight' - the difference between TARE and ATM - so that they don't become 'illegal'.

I Don't care now about the dollars. I would have put it in myself. But Quality time is more important right now.
