Bugger I was going to download Windows 10 until I read that bit of info, I think I will stick with 7 until Microsoft stop providing updates and by then it will be time to get some new hardware anyway.

Apparently there is a new a new app for helping to disable the Windows 10 spying defaults see link.
Looks interesting David, I do wonder about the security implications of apps like this.

Me too! I'd much rather make changes manually, and keep notes so that I can reverse any steps if they have unintended consequences. I saw a news article somewhere online (can't remember where, possibly the BBC's web site) with a headline saying something like 'Do you feel you're being herded into upgrading to Windows 10?' These privacy issues seem to answer that question.
