We need two new folding outside chairs with storeage in mind in the new van, for under the awning and happy hours. We are tried of the $9.98 versions. Ideas please.

G'day. BCF or any other like store have many to choose from. We carry 4 chairs (yes I know about the extra weight) 2 to be comfortable in our own area and 2 much smaller ones to carry to happy hours bbq's etc. my favourite is a lay back chair I picked up in Atherton which lets me lay right back if I want to. we carry our chairs between the beds in our van. Cheries is a high back adjustable which she loves. what ever you buy you must be comfortable.

I would suggest you go to one of the large camping stores, or a few of them, and try as many chairs as possible. Different people will find different chairs comfortable, my husbands chair is perfect for him, but I find it very uncomfortable, mostly I think because its too big for me. He doesn't like my chair at all. We wanted one that we could comfortably use to eat at the table but also use it to relax back into to read a book etc. Also look at how easy it is to fold up and the storage space it will take and where you will fit it. Once you have decided what one/s you like I would suggest looking around for the best price, as most of them will come on special at different times.

Dune 4WD Nomad XL Chair currently on sale at Anaconda reduced from $120 to $80.
We also have the lounge chair version that are too cumbersome for long term traveling but are excellent to "nod" off in.

why not some thing like this, very light to carry around
Has anyone noticed quite a lot of ''larger than normal'' camp chairs around these days? Probably to cater for lots of ''larger than normal'' backsides around these days. Some of them are rated to take weights of 140kg! LOL.
We got our ''normal sized'' camp chairs from Rays Outdoors. Plenty of ones around that don't last very long, some of them quite expensive & ''reputable'' brands.

I'm still looking for a supportive one for my bad back. I ordered a Komodo moon chair from Kogan thinking it would be comfortable as a friend had one similar. Unfortunately, not to be. Too large and leans back way too far.. Can't sit up straight in it at all which I need for my back.
It's in the shed and I will look for another one.

Another vote for the Dune chair from Anaconda have had ours for three years and they are so comfortable. Have friends that got theres at the same time. Got ours when they were on sale

Well its off to Anaconda then this weekend. We see that they have a 30% off sale this coming weekend.
As a matter of fact they seem to have a sale every week.
Make sure you get one to handle your weight and then some. I'm just over 100 kgs and if my grandson at 20 kg decides to take a running jump at Pa, then the chair needs to take that. I think our his & hers chairs are 140 or 150 kg. Wife's is a big Coleman than folds flat and mine is one like pic above (which I really like). However I've reinforced the material by wrapping some leather (old boots) around each corner of the seat and blind-rivetting it to itself. I find that flat, rather than umbrella type, actually pack better. However, my wife prefers to throw 2 light-weight out-door chairs from our outdoor setting in the back of the ute. It's not weight, but volume.
You gets what you pays for. Some of the cheap ones are effectively one use only, unless you are very small & light. Just look at how many are left in campgrounds. It does pay to check as some that are left are often just bought for the holiday and left behind on last stop. You can score a free one. Got several from a byo-chair outdoor concert last summer that people just bought for the night and left behind.

Hi there Jim, I have the Dune 4WD chair, its very comfortable, high back sturdy construction, the bars do not cross over underneath the chair, therefore it makes placing your feet tucked backwards comfortable, as sometimes I don't always feel like out stretching my feet forward, cross over bars underneath are a hindrance. The only problem I have with it is it does not have a Pocket or drink holder, I didn't think that would matter to me, but I've found I really miss them. The chair retails normally for over $100, I purchased mine at Anaconda for $85.....Kisha.

I have the Oztrail as pictured previously in another post a very sturdy comfortable chair not too heavy to carry about. Has the advantage of being adjustable to support the lower back Lumbar region. I have not seen this feature in other brands.

I've been looking around for a good old fashioned Deck Chair (not directors chair) but with no luck. Tried all the usual camping shops etc, even a couple of smaller ones. They obviously don't make them anymore. Rays used to have similar but with a metal frame but not now.

Maybe I will need to get a tube of that stuff you put behind a dog's ear and put it in a top corner of the chair.
I was looking for a recling fold up chair that would fit in the middle of inside the van so I can lay back with feet up and pillow behind head wathing a movie. The big ones that I have seen so far are too wide and thought of the good old deck chair.

The ones I'm trying to find were usually a canvas fabric with timber frame that could be adjusted to a sitting up position or more laid back. I had seen very similar but with a metal frame many moons back, infact, I had a couple but they rusted out and the tip got them.

Found some old style deck chairs when I cleaned out my dad's garage a few years ago. There were two sorts - one set that belonged to my grandparents that would have dated from the 1920s where the canvas was joined with rope & eyelets. The other was my parents set that dated from the 1950's and looked like troopy's pic above. Both sets were well past their use-by dates for the canvas, rope & stitching but the wood was great.

Banana lounges were often the one thing taken from the family home to be used as a bed when moving out of home for the first time. And they could be folded up out of the way for partying.

According to an email I received from BCF their 'stocktake sale' is on from 30 July to 8 August.
Among the items are Wanderer 8 position reclining chairs at $59 reduced from the regular price $139,
these are the same as I carry in my motorhome. Very comfortable in my opinion.
There are also another 2 style of chairs in the sale.
It may be that they are only available to BCF club members, but if that is the case you can join for free.

Rocky, I have sent a email requesting the width of one as they look OK. Flea Bay have similar and they say over 900mm wide which seems a bit wide to me. I only have 670mm to play with at this stage. There is another option for me but I will wait and see first.

JCT, I am a member already I also think those chairs you refer to are wider as well.
I was hopeing to put the chair between fridge and seat but might need to put between oven and fold up table, that is more than possible and might have to go that way.

Checked BCF the other day JCT and they didn't even know what I was talking about.
Must be an older person thing as the young whipper snapper had no idea what I was talking about.
Here's one I picked up from a car boot sale for $5.00. Ex Army and built tuff from alloy tubing. Pretty light to carry as well.
