Can;t help but notice the amount of vans both small & large behind fully loaded vehicles here in WA with NO WDH's.
Also the amount that come into free camps at 8-9 pm & gone before daylight; seems more like a mission against the clock rather than a holiday..

There a lot out there that don't thing they need WDH because there tug can handle it , I know the difference it make using WDH and would not tow without one

Who needs a WDH? Seen plenty of rigs fitted with WDH's ''come a gutsa''. WDH didn't help one iota when they got the sways up.
WDH's are just an Aussie tradition like chucking another snag on the Barbie IMO. No-one really asks themselves ''do I really need one'' they just fit one anyway because most people do.

well, Im from WA and agree with Jim about WDH's - theres also plenty of largish vans at school holiday time loaded to the top being towed by a small Prado with Mum, Dad, 3 kids and the butt scraping the ground and the front wheels bouncing along.
But Im currently in NSW and see the same thing - except this time its grey nomads x 2 with a small tow vehicle and a large caravan. In Dubbo today I noticed one that every bump in the road (and theres plenty in this town) the front wheels looked like they actually cleared the tarmac - frightening !!!!
I have a 3000 kg rated 19'6" ft van towed by a DMax (rated to tow 3.5). I have ESC fitted to the van and WDH. I don't intend to risk my life or others on the road

It all depends on what you are towing.We chose to tow a lighter van, we don't like the tail wagging the dog.
yes JC its school holidays and the parents try to show the kids the works in 2 weeks which is a shame as they give the kids the wrong impression about holidays which is rush rush

Maybe they have to be in a certain place by a certain time? When we do our yearly trip from Newcastle to Alice, we generally work it out to take the minimum time to get there, spend the week in Alice for the Finke Desert Race, then we spend the next 3 weeks slowly working our way back. It's the most practical way for us because we usually have a limited time to do it.
And no, I don't need a WDH. I'm towing an Avan Ray 11'6" van with a Landcruiser 78 series that weighs nearly 3 tonne.

As stated before we don't use or require a WDH. Our Nissan Navara has a tow capacity of 2800kg & our van only weighs 1550kg fully loaded. The whole rig sits dead level.
